in brief:

i win an item [car engine] on ebay and pay for it using paypal, but using my credit card. my credit card statements show this transaction and the funds have left the cc.

engine gets collected by my shipper [i live overseas], seller asks me to mark it as received so that paypal will release the funds.

i check my paypal account and there's nothing in my recent purchase history. i have 2 accounts so check both, nothing in either. my ebay shows me as paying via cc but has no option to say its been received.

anyone had similar and/or know how to proceed? seller has been totally decent throughout and i don't want to mess him about. the engine is with my shipping co. and the money is in limbo somewhere.

Did you get an email? Usually has a link to the transaction on their site, may help.

Leaving feedback will.release the funds but it depends whether that's something you're prepared to do before getting it

messaged the seller back and forth, neither of us can make any sense of it. i bought a small item to check the process and paid by card. this went solely through ebay, no log in to my paypal account, but the charge made to my card was indeed to paypal. still, this new sale doesn't show at all on my paypal history.

i left feedback to see if that changed anything, will check tomorrow. happy enough to do so, its a donor lump sold as spares/repair and will be fully rebuilt before use.

guess this is one for customer services, nice international premium rate call :-/

I always buy using Paypal, with a credit card linked to it.

I just looked at my last purchase in purchase history and it doesn't say how I paid, but in the 'more actions' drop down there's 'view Paypal transaction' and it links through Paypal to the transaction.

Thanks, just tried that and it didn’t even give me the option. Wonder if it’s due to me paying from overseas but delivering to a UK address?

"We're aware of an issue affecting PayPal where some transactions aren't displaying on eBay. To verify if your payment has been sent or received, please check your PayPal account. We also recommend contacting your trading partner to confirm that the payment was successful. We're currently experiencing long wait times, and are working with PayPal to resolve this issue as quickly as possible."

Did you pay for it while logged in to Paypal or did you use their 'pay by credit card even if you don't have a Paypal account' option. If the latter, it won't show up in your Paypal account(s).

The latter. My CC statement shows it as being paid to PayPal Luxembourg though.

The seller is saying that from his end, I need to mark it as received for PP to release the funds to him. I just can’t see this option at all, on PP or eBay.

1. Off topic but If you haven't received it don't mark it as received. What if it gets tied up by customs, the package goes astray, or its the wrong engine.
Your seller had a choice to use e bay and paypal as I had and many years ago I sold 2 high value items and paypal didn't release the money. I had to fund the £30 ish shipping fees. Paypal said they would release funds after feedback was received or x amount of days.
Some 6981 positive feedbacks later it seems so long ago. Very probably your seller is 100% straight but what if...……….Sorry if this sounds patronising or lecturing it's not meant to be

2. There is as someone else posted an issue with paypal and e bays systems. I suspect it will all tie up within the next few days.

Thanks for the well meaning reply. I chose the collect in person option and enlisted my own shipping company who have confirmed collection. Therefore the seller’s obligation ends and all risks are mine from now on. Tbh it’ll cost me more in shipping and duties than the item itself, and many multiples again in making it fit for racing.

Ahh got you I assumed it was him arranging the shipping To be fair I have someone who buys Sky Boxes off me for use abroad and he does a similar way. Good luck and I do think the paypal thing will clear up. Had some items sell yesterday on e bay. My paypal balance has gone up by the sale amounts but the actual sales aren't showing. Fun all round. Best Wishes

Found this, from a year ago but again it seems to rely on being able to see the transaction in Paypal.

Must admit I don't get the bit where you said you used a credit card but not through your Paypal account? I think it can be done as guest, but apparently is very tricky. It wasn't your first purchase with a new eBay account, was it?

Anyway:

"I also collected two items in person after making advance payment through Paypal. The seller later contacted me to ask if I could confirm receipt of the items as payment was being held. I found no options on the ebay pages or any solutions on the first couple of forum threads I read. However, when I clicked the 'view paypal transaction' button and entered my paypal log in details, there was a large red box at the top of the page asking me to confirm the items had been received and found to be of an acceptable standard.

Once you make this confirmation, you lose your right to raise a dispute relating to the item. So do test your item works and is as advertised for your own interest before helping out the seller and confirming receipt.

This fixed the problem for the seller in my case."

Thanks.

Its not a new acccount no. Its a Paypal UAE account which I use fairly regularly and have done so this year for much larger transactions.

When I viewed the order to pay, it gave me the paypal option or to pay by credit card. I clicked on the latter, confirmed the card and that was it.

On my ebay, the order date, payment method and payment date are shown. Its also shown as despatched and feedback left.

On 'more actions' there is no option to view the paypal transaction. The transaction is not showing at all still on my Paypal summary.

I guess this is one for ebay customer services. Joy.

I meant your eBay account, not Paypal.

I guess it's possible there may be some regional differences, but as I understand it, there's no way to pay by credit card without going through Paypal, but the seller can allow purchases through guest Paypal accounts. ie: https://www.paypal.com/al/smarthelp/article/how-do...

...but, also as I understand it, you can't have a guest account if you've already got an existing Paypal account - al least, not without a lot of faff, which is what I was alluding to before.

Ah ok. No, its a very old account - must be coming up on 20yrs!

I spent a bit of time stuck in the 'contact us' help topic loop and managed to find that yes, if the seller doesn't have their own facility to accept CC payments then it automatically gets processed by paypal. So I've emailed the story to paypal customer services and they reckon they'll respond within 24hrs.

Backup solution is to cancel the transaction with my credit card provider and sent the money as a bank transfer. Seller's suggestion but not sure what that would do for either of our ebay accounts.

This is the most likely the reason for your issues rather than anything sinister. It's a direct quote from eBay themselves that shows up when currently trying to make a payment or accessing a recent order.

There is currently a serious issue resulting in payments not showing correctly between the eBay / Paypal platform even if they've gone through. Based on info online it seems to have started late last week and escalated through the weekend due to the number of transactions processed.
