Why do certain items always seem to be “POA” rather than stating a price ? After all a buyer is going to want to know roughly if the price suits them.Without having to play Inspector morse with a seller etc. I don’t get it at all . Its like the seller will be making the price up as they go along .

POA usually means that I can't afford to buy it. frown

You see it a lot on exotic/very expensive/rare cars.

I find it a bit ‘wky” . So many items for sale over £50k still have retails prices etc ! Even Property costing Millions .

I think they (the vendor) thinks that by having that it somehow makes their item seem more special.

No, it doesn't it just makes you look like a nob who is selling something which isn't as important as you think it is.

Gone are the days of "If Sir has to ask, ..." - even Rolls Royce put the prices on their products. Now it just means "Seller is an ahole". Swipe left.

I hate it. Almost as much as when somebody says, ‘Make me an offer.’

....or at least that’s how the vendor likes to portray them.

Once, I did make someone an offer. It didn’t end well.

I’d viewed a privately advertised decent 2l Triumph Vitesse saloon on the morning for £1300 (back in the nineties) and then went to see a 1600 convertible (full of filler) in the afternoon at a classic car dealers. The dealer said, “Make me an offer” so I explained the situation and offered £1500. He told me I was lying about the first car and then said that convertibles were worth significantly more. I wasn’t pleased at having my integrity questioned.

Unsurprisingly I went back and bought the private sale. I still own it...

We don’t advertise any of our products with an advertised price, the simple reason being we are the market leaders in our field and realised we were becoming a free resource for the asset valuers/auctioneers i.e. our list price +/- 10% was becoming the reserve bid. Decided 3 years ago that the more those numpties were kept in the dark the better for everyone.

I do find it off putting - I have never bought anything advertised as POA.

Antiques are my main interest and I have always assumed that "POA" is a polite way of saying "don't bother, you can't afford it".

Very true.

Just put the fking asking price.

I understand the reason behind it.... you are interested so you probably have a vauge idea of the value.
You call up. They have you, a customer, engaged in dialouge.

However.... imagine Aldi having "POA" under their Bananas....

This is exactly what the seller thinks.

Ok if they have a car that's so rare there might only be one or two available.

But in truth, if I was looking, I'd call the other cars that have a price way before this one.

In fact, I can't recall buying any car that was advertised with POA. And I've bought a fair few cars in my time.

I also used to see No Test Pilots a lot.

I once thought that noone would be a big enough ahole to rag someone elses car on a test drive without any intention of buying it, but my opinion of people is a lot lower these days. I wonder how often it happens to car dealers.
