EBay... it’s a a trap, is it a trap?
Discussion
Bought some boots from eBay a couple of weeks ago. ‘Worn twice’ and clearly in basically new condition. Decent price and I was very happy with them.
I’ve worn them for about 5 days and have now noticed sole on one side is coming adrift- closer inspection reveals whole inner structure is collapsed.
Seller has sent me a message declining a refund as ‘it’s happened due to me wearing them’ which is clearly b
ks.
However, I’ve had a second message from eBay saying that the return has been accepted and I just have to wait for him to send me a postage label. Possibly hit the wrong button, or...
Is this some sort of cunning ruse, or should I just wait and ask eBay to decide?

its legit. it looks like you need to pay for return postage yourself as they ask you to tell them how you sent it. sent it tracked second class, usually cheap and you will know he;s received it.
just this morning i messaged ebay because i returned an item last week and i hadnt been refunded. the ebay agent checked the tracking and actioned the refund "on the sellers behalf" :]
edit:
i think if you send it yourself, you may get reimbursed for it. they say wait 4 days, so perhaps the seller is meant to pay for it

He won't have a choice. eBay sellers have to offer refunds and returns now.
He's accepted a return, but you will need to pay for the return by the looks of it (he's wiggled out of the paid for return service by stating wear and tear which is possibly fair), so use Parcel2Go and get a tracking number. It'll be less than a tenner.
Once eBay sees that the parcel has been delivered (via the online tracking number that you have to include) you will get your refund.
If you don't get a refund, you escalate it and will get a refund.

Buy from a shop next time. You've bought second-hand goods off the internet.
The world's gone mad.
Fair comment, although they were sold ‘as new’ and looked as new upon arrival. No wear at all on soles or anything. He’s clearly sold them though since they have a major fault, which is completely dishonest. The world's gone mad.

Bought cheap, looked brand new, fell to bits immediately.... they weren't genuine.T5SOR said:

Ebay, and its dirty sister Gumtree are a nightmare to deal with in the case of returns. Unless it's something bought on a credit card, you can ask your card provider to refund the purchase, best thing though is send your boots back 24hr Recorded Delivery (£6.90 last time I checked) to the seller. They clicked on accept so the dispute is open. Add the tracking number to the dispute. Give it 5 days then enjoy a Pidgin English exchange with the overseas Ebay staff after waiting on hold for 20 minutes on a premium line

Next online purchase should be via reputable shop, some private sellers can be an absolute nightmare. If it's an item below £30, just chalk it up as experience. Some people do buy stuff to wear once, then return, especially in shops like Next, i.e trousers bought for interviews, returned next day, put back on rail after refund issued by dozy checkout staff in customer service. Explained the train ticket to Fenchurch Street in one of the pockets when Muggins here bought said trousers with no tags or labels in the shop...
