Okay, its all over face ache and the web about microwaving loo rolls before schools use them for "crafting"... ie, making Xmas crackers.

My relatively basic understanding of microbiology tells me this is a massive load of bks.

Anyone who is genuinely and really qualified *you know who you are* to say this is a load of crap or otherwise please step forward.

Sounded like rubbish to me, and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) agree:

http://www.hse.gov.uk/Myth/myth-busting/2015/case3...

Microwaving a loo roll would decontaminate it, but only for the split second before the child who hasn’t washed their hands properly anyway touches it.

I was very lucky not to die from a bog roll tube infection as a sprog in the 50's.

Though that's probably because we had an outside bog with torn up newspaper on a nail.

I was more afraid of the rather large spiders that scuttled about in there.

Some years back, a headmistress in Birmingham had to deal with a kid who got whacked in the eye by a conker and suggested that children should take precautions when playing with them. This lead to some wearing their swimming googles as a joke but was seen by some parents who, when questioning their kids, were told that the headmistress told them to.

This then became the poster-boy for demonstration of 'health-and-safety-gone-mad' despite there never being any such ruling, advice or law.

I fully suspect that the bog roll in the microwave will go the same way.

To be honest Tony, if the bog roll tube was infected with anything, then why would you want to heat it up and spread it around a microwave machine that you will use to cook food?

Utterly bonkers idea.

Microwaves work by imparting the electromagnetic energy into the water content (essentially the microwaves make water molecules vibrate faster and faster, which is the physics equivalent of heat, and thus the object gets hotter) of anything inside the Faraday cage of the microwave itself.

In theory, any bacteria inside the microwave will be radiated and the water content of the cell will heat up to the point where it either dentures the enzymes of the cell (think egg frying in a pan) or it boils and the cell wall bursts.

The only drawback is you then open the door and expose the toilet roll to the atmosphere, which contains many billions of bacteria floating around.
Granted, they may be of a different origin to those originally on the toilet roll, but that will also depend on how many doors there are between bathroom and kitchen hurl

Years back, my wife and I were picking up our daughter from primary school.

They were asking for cardboard tubes.. but not loo roll ones.
"Why not?" I quietly ask my better half.
"Germs. They only want kitchen roll ones or whatever."
"What, the ones that have been around the raw chicken?"
"SSSSHHHHHH! or they'll ban those too!"

How many people wash their hands before touching any of your clothes and belts etc after having a poo?

I prefer to dress myself first especially in public toilets. It is very embarrassing hopping across to the sinks with everything round your ankles and your crown jewels dragging behind you across the floor.

Well swinging in the air.

Well maybe just dangling.

Microwaving your toilet rolls is the least of your worries.

I am lucky I do not get poo all over me but I still wash my hands and use a sanitiser, unsure how you get poo all over yourself. How odd.

But i do try to find better ways to open the door in order to avoid the st stickers that inhabit our planet.

I thought this was going to be connected (or opposite?) to the idea of putting a bog roll in the freezer before eating a particularly spicy curry.
