Christmas Trees: When is it acceptable?

Maybe should be council thread.

I know a couple of people who put their tree up last week - IN November!! That just makes me feeling slightly nauseous.

1st Dec I can understand but seems early - Ours will be going up about 14th and down before New Years Eve.

Whats the general consensus on when is acceptable to put up a Christmas tree?

12 days before is the rule i think,Not july.

Pre kids I’ve been known to put it up on Christmas Eve and take it down the day after Boxing Day.
I wouldn’t get away with that these days though, next weekend is the plan.

Why take it down so soon? Twelfth night - 6 Jan - is the traditional date for taking a Christmas tree down.

Ours went up on the 30th (Saturday as we had plans on the Sunday) and will be down on boxing day (normally the 27th but we go on holiday on the 27th)

Put ours up yesterday, the joy of two young kids. Normally put it up the first weekend in Dec and it comes down around New Years Day.

I haven't owned or bought a Christmas tree for the last 8 years. We were never at home for Christmas, this year we are at home and have bought a tree. It will go up weekend before Christmas and will probably be down day after boxing day. That's not up to me either, the boss thinks its a dust gatherer

Normally I leave it as late as possible, but with 2 young kids nagging about when were we going to put the tree up it was easier to get it done early so it went up yesterday.

I am quite pleased with it though, got some nice new lights which remind me of the old fashioned coloured lanterns my Nan used to have on her tree.

My wife and I spent the afternoon drinking mulled wine and eating mince pies so once the trauma of keeping the kids out the way while I wrapped 2 strings of lights round the tree it was a nice afternoon

Might make a little snowy Christmas train layout to go round the bottom for next year.

I have the tree, but the ex took all the decorations. As a single man, I am not going to a shop to buy decorations. As a single man I am not going to put a tree up. I find taking one down quite depressing too.

I don't own a cat.

No tree and haven't had one since I lived on my own. No kids, and no pets although I do occasionally let the neighbour's cat in for some biscuits if that counts?

Traditionally it should be Christmas eve, and then taken down 12 days later.

The problem with decorations going up in November, is that by the time Christmas eventually rolls around, you are sick of the sight of them.
