Members clubs and joining fees

Just curious (and possibly posting in the wrong section).

Why are the joining fees so high? It's clearly not an admin fee because an admin person would not be paid that much!

The RAC have by far the best colour of dress uniform.

The AA is about £200 a year and that’s high enough.

One has been a member of all the above mentioned Automobile clubs, one does not like to brag about one's preference, but one prefers whichever one is included in one's Automobile insurance!!

The reason it’s so pricey is probably because the landlord is the duke of Westminster. It’s not going to be cheap to operate anything of that size, there. Oh and they charge that, because they can.

Looks cheap compared to Club 33 @ Disney - alleged $25000 joining fee and $12000 annually.

Joining fee is so high so you are compelled to stay a member.

If there was no joining fee and just an annual fee, you may decide to drop out for a few years and forget all about it.

With the £4,000 at stake, you would be more tempted to stay a member for longer/life

= profit

Ain’t that the truth. Their ‘preferred’ method of membership entry is to be proposed and seconded by 2 existing members. That is just cringeworthy, dinosaur, schoolyard, treehouse politics in motion. I really wouldn’t want to be associated with any organisation that operated a policy like that.

I was thinking, the annual fee is about the same as David Lloyd but I guess you're getting nicer surrounds.

The curious thing is that riff raff can get in cheap if they're under a certain age; it's almost a bargain if you're 22. Why is that then? They don't want old people?

Other way round - they need new members to replace the old ones as they pop off. (and to tie new ones into 60+ years of subs)
