Have you ever pawned anything?
Discussion
OP this is PH and nobody ever runs out of Ca$h!
Most are multiple directors, debt free, paid for their house in cash and have never taken ANY form of credit in their lives. To do so would make them a failure to themselves.
Some maybe own chains of porn shops but have never set foot in the abode for reasons above.

Not pawned anything but I did sell my wedding ring to a pawnbroker a couple of months ago. Walked in, gave them the ring, they had a look through an eyeglass, weighed it and tapped it with something which I guess must react in a certain way to gold. They gave me a value and I gladly took a wedge of noted off them.

Fully understood
I just thought perhaps a powerfully built director might pawn his Sunseeker to raise short term funds for expanding their portfolio of multiple business interests.
Or perhaps need to pay an electric bill.
Im not sure this Counts as pawning. But when i want something frivolous and cant really justify the outlay. I go though old tech boxes, crap in the basement etc and bung a load of things on ebay and see how close I can get to the total I want. I guess its the modern day method but a lot more effort.
I then apply man maths, over exaggerate how much I will make (ignore ebay fees as they ruin the maths) and order the thing I wanted knowing that I will easily cover the cost
In reality I make a few 10 of €'s and clear rubbish that I will never need.

I'm always amazed on these Posh Pawn shows with people who claim or just even seem to be wealthy are pawning or selling something to gain a few quid. Strikes me they couldn't actually afford their life style in the first place. Beyond convenience I've no idea why you'd sell anything to a pawn shop as you know you will get ripped off.

Sold a watch to a Pawn Shop in Oz when I was backpacking and broke,
It was only a Seiko, they most cost more down there, they gave me more for it then I'd paid for it new.

Was it cash converters? I took an old games console there.
Before the internet and gumtree or eBay existed, chain pawn shops like them were huge and made loads.

In what way are they ripped off?
Well in my opinion if you go into a pawn shop obviously in need of a few bob with something of value the owner of the shop will go out to the trade and get a bid from them to assess his risk. Seems to me odd that if you were selling that you didn't go direct to a specialist dealer in what ever your selling to save paying yet another profit margin. Pawning I can understand you lend against an asset, selling that asset via pawn dealer seems like unnecessary additional cost.So ripped off is probably a bit unfair but paying another profit margin seems equally daft! As I said though unless the convenience is a major factor.

Who would be the specialist dealer for a TV or Games Console on your high street? Those being the things I see most frequently in the windows of the pawn shop in when I've walked past, along with mobile phones etc.
Sure, you could stick it on Facebook Marketplace or Gumtree but then yuo have to deal with the mouth breathers which that can attract, wait in at home for them. Or sell them to MazumaMobile or similar and wait for them to assess it etc. Or go to the pawn shop and get probably about the same amount in a usable cash format almost immediately. That's the part - its the least amount of effort, and that's what some people want - instant cash.
