Quick ebay selling question

Folks, need some advice.

I don't use ebay much but I am selling something on it today and have had an offer (I had the "make me an offer" option on)

I specified that I'd only ship to the UK.

The offer was for £10 less than I have the item up for (so £140 instead of £150). All fine so far.

Thing is that the shipping address is in the UK but the buyer is listed as in China. 100% +ve feedback but still I'm wary.

Anyone have any experience of this? I guess it is entirely possible that folks from China buy stuff on ebay in the UK, get it shipped to a UK address / warehouse and then get it all shipped to China.

No skin off my nose as long as it is legit. I just want to get paid and not have any hassle once the parcel has been shipped.

Is it the Ebay global shipping address?

I've done that a few times and it worked fine.

If not, as long as the address is their officially linked Paypal address it should be OK too.

The post code seems to be some sort of small industrial estate in Orpington. So far I can only see the postcode as I have not accepted the offer.

How do I find out if the Paypal account is linked to the address in the UK?

The only address that count is the one that Ebay tells you to send it to when they've coughed up. If it goes to that then you'd fulfilled your part of the bargain.

If I remember rightly their GSP address is in Lichfield.

If it depends on someone else posting it on then that does open up some potential problems. I'd be tempted to leave it if it isn't GSP all the way.

I've sold quite a bit on eBay. If you go to the post office postcode finder does it show a forwarding agent at that address?

Anyhoo, if you sell to anybody on eBay you pretty much gamble that it ends well.

Obviously if you ship an expensive item you'll need to ensure you use a service with sufficient compensation.

Ahhha! Checked the postcode finder and this came up:-

Seems to be some sort of Chinese postal service. The About Us page says "Coming Soon". Hmm

So if I understand correctly the guy that made the offer gets it sent to this UK address and then pays these guys to send it on to China.

The other issue is that as I am an infrequent ebay seller, ebay hold on to my money until they have proof or delivery. I guess that's OK if the delivery address they check for is the place in Orpington.

Anyway, it won't get posted until I get payment so then I'm just left with getting ebay to release the cash to me.

I've sold quite a bit on eBay and my policy is always to minimise risk; set buyer requirements to the maximum, and I only sell in the UK. Sending abroad just adds another layer of risk, not least because Paypal nearly always find in the buyers favour. Why not wait till a buyer from the UK purchases it or makes an offer?

Once you've successfully delivered to the GSP site your responsibility for non arrival is done. So, assuming the GSP aren't out to get you () if the buyer claims no show it's up to eBay not you.

It's not non-delivery I'm worried about, more spurious PayPal chargebacks (which to be fair can happen from UK buyers....); I sold a Calvin Klein leather jacket a few years ago and made a mistake with the postal setting - it was purchased by a French buyer and when he received it he claimed it was a fake. It's bad enough dealing with these issues with a UK buyer, but a nightmare when you add in potential language barriers. There are plenty UK buyers out there so for me it's just not worth the hassle.

Yep. As I said earlier in the thread...eBay is a trust based system.
