Wikipedia - Going Soon? Have you Donated?

I see the appeal for donations is back after only a few weeks.

Interested to see how many PH users have donated.

I probably read one or two articles a week, so felt obliged to bung them a few ££.

I think I'd actually miss it if it disappeared, but is it really likely to happen?

You're free to download the entirety of it and I'm sure many people have. Even if they themselves call it quits others will resurrect it.

I've donated, it's always been conveniently useful in one way or another over the years (mostly plot summaries to films which I CBA to watch).

This was posted a couple of years ago when they were doing the same. Ive hadn't used wiki then and I still haven't now. I don't see how people seem to need/use it so frequently??!

I guess I probably should bung them a few £ as I do use it from time to time but if things are that bad what happens if they do run out of cash...

Would it be the inevitable Google/Facebook take over and then monetised through advertising? Bet all those that donated would be up in arms then!

I can get lost in Wikipedia. Just like YouTube I can find myself reading about all types of drivel....

because it's awesome. The amount of random stuff you can read about just by clicking on the articles that each article references, going further down the rabbit hole, is utterly fascinating. I'd sooner spend a long journey reading wikipedia than a novel.

I donated a few times until I read that Wikipedia has stacks of cash, more than they know what to do with and invest much of it in area's which don't have anything to do with their core mission. Some are fairly dubious.

Use it, don't feel the urge to donate under any circumstances. I wouldn't miss it if it went, which it won't.
