Barbers - Getting everything trimmed/waxed/hot toweled

Bit of a rant here sorry - but the last couple of years around Bristol there's been a lot of these Turkish Barbers opening or traditional barbers converting to offer multiple grooming services.
I just find it so annoying, I have much better things to do with my time then getting everything trimmed with all these other non essential services. The part I find most frustrating is I'll walk in and take a seat and think oh good only 1 person in front of me, should be out of here in about 30 mins, only to find out the guys already sat in the seats have another 30 mins worth of pampering still to be had as well as the one person in front of me wanting the same treatment.
The Barbers now seem quite shocked when all I ask for is short back and sides and a scissor cut on top, I just want to be in and out as quickly as possible so I can get on with more interesting things.
Am I the only one who thinks like this or do all guys now enjoy having all their visible bits shaved off?

I went for a haircut a couple of months ago and the guy started applying every cream, spray and lotion to my face for some reason. I have sensitive skin so can't even use things like head and shoulders. I had a party to go to and had nice haircut but by the time I got home my face looked like I had been acid dipped. Bright red and throbbing. Now I'm very strict when I sit down. Hair cut, leave my ear hair, nose hair, eyebrows and keep anything that comes in a bottle away from me.

I'm under strict instructions not to shave my hair. I showed the other half a few pictures of me with a number 1 all round and I look like an extra on the football factory apparently. Plus, I don't have the ears for it. Linker levels of FA cup head.

Theres one just down the road with sofas and an xbox, etc. I think they are doing all these extras to appeal to metrosexuals.

Way back when I had hair, we had two barbers; Slasher Marshall and Gay Bob's.
Slasher gave you short back and sides, whatever you asked for.
Gay Bob wasn't gay, but he took over the shop from Gay Reg, so natch... He did cuts that weren't short back and sides.
Both used to have queues out of the door every Saturday (no boys), yet it never took very long - probably 10-15 mins max per customer. once in the chair.
Slasher gave you short back and sides, whatever you asked for.

I too got to breaking point with the Barbers last year.
One used to be able to wake up think "ooh I need a hair cut" Pop down the road and 20 mins later sorted.
Now without an appointment you could be sat there all day watching some bloke get his beard massaged. The trouble with the appointment system is I don't know I need a hair cut until I decide I need a hair cut.
Went the clippers route recently and what a revelation. Never again do I have to go through the rigmarole of visiting a hair cutting establishment, sat there discussing whether I've booked or been on holiday recently.
Zip, zip, zip and I'm done, eyebrows, ears and nose included.
Granted, I'm never going to be as stylish as the only choice you have with clippers is one length all over but it's quick, convenient and the hair looks respectable. Which is fine by me.

I found hair cuts were taking too long (45-60m) and were expensive at $45 a pop so I switched to cutting my own hair. I taper the back and sides and trim the top with scissors, although I am growing it out at the moment anyway. You don’t have to go one length only with clippers and it’s not difficult to taper
