Suit & Shirt Advice needed

I've been wearing a normal suit & tie at work combo for years, but want to dress down more in the office.

I want to wear a shirt & suit, but drop the tie. The issue I have currently, my existing stock of shirts (high end Next/M&S luxury types), the collar rises up & flops over the suit's lapels. I have tried shirt stays (inc metal magnetic types) but these are a faff.

How/where do I go to buy suitable shirts that allow for no tie, but reliably stay under the lapels of my jacket?

Couldn't even pretend to pull that off, not at my age!

Button collars are an option, but not sure the style works with a full suit? Does it?

I wear them with a suite, although some people take a second look, I just don't really like collars, the only other way to ensure collar doesn't ride over lapel is button down.

Charles Tyrwitt shirts are good value for the money. I see no issues with a button down collar at all. In fact, when I wore suits I always wore butting down collars when I could.

Personally, I don't like a suit with no tie. But then I don't like brown shoes with anything formal either. Call me old fashioned I guess.

Thanks for the recommendations guys! Role & area I am in requires more than a casual look (customers/clients internal/external etc), but not quite my default full suit look. General style of my peers is mostly full suit & no tie if I remember rightly. New Year times it well for a refresh of my wardrobe I think.


What makes a shirt work with lapels & no tie, is it higher end shirts? Thickness? Material type? How they are manufactured? Anything that I can look out for to ensure I don't spend a fortune on shirt(s) that let me down?


If button down with a suit is acceptable, I might try that as a stop gap!

Legitimate question on male attire, asked on a male-orientated forum, in the correct area, where I am likely to get the advice & recommendations I need. From my searching it seems to be a common problem, but from my observations, some have found solutions to it
