Safest Way to Get Paid on Ebay

I'm selling a car on ebay that is likely to sell for a significant amount I don't want to lose. What's the safest most secure way to get paid?. I don't really want cash/cheque/card or pay Paypal fees. What could go wrong with a bank transfer?

Bank transfer, avoid PayPal at all costs for anything of the value if a car!

I’d take cash.

Or go to the bank with the buyer to see him get a bankers draft which you then can pay in.

eBay won’t like it though and do everything possible to force you down the PayPal route.

Phone number in the ad somehow - perhaps a picture of the number.

Then arrange via phone.

If they email for details, give phone number

eBay are on to that and now block accounts that try to send communications that are outside eBay control.
Images of phone numbers (hand written in Post-It notes etc) can get through but they are on to it.
Don’t ask me how I know.
Obviously at the same time, eBay are devoting as much effort to stopping all the PayPal scams and protecting sellers as much as they protect buyers.

You can add your phone number on Ebay classified car ads. HTH

Agreed, very poor advice.
A work colleague has just had his account removed for doing exactly the same thing. They’re very hot on it now.

This. Sold a car on ebay last month.

Had slight paranoia so checked bank transfer was OK with the bank who declared it safe as houses.
Said under 10k will appear in your online account immediately, which was the case, and higher sums may take up to half an hour

Bank transfer. However, I’ve had a couple of occasions where payments haven’t showed straight away - one came through after a couple of hours and he waited, the other didn’t show until the following day and he had to come back.

eBay don't care. They don't own PayPal any more. They also don't care about classified ads as they're not an auction.

As an aside, anything that is collected on eBay should always be cash on collection to stop the buyer filing a Not Received claim.

Yes, but they like to keep tabs on what you make from a sale in order to take their percentage, hence the cash option isn’t pushed by them as it’s totally between the buyer and the vendor.

I sold something recently on eBay with a £1500 reserve, and it insisted when I created the listing that I had to accept PayPal.

I put in the text that PayPal was not the preferred payment method, but the winner used it anyway

I regularly do this and have the same.

I simply issue a refund and ask them to pay with cash as detailed in the ad.

A few get arsey about it, particularly as Paypal hold onto their refund for a week - but no one has ever backed out / left neg feedback
