serious question, should i send flowers to...

...my elderly step mother who is about to start chemo for s pretty horrid form of cancer. she may have a couple of years or a couple of months.
we'd like to send something to say we are thinking of her, but are flowers the right thing? i usually associate then with celebration or commiseration. A card seems a bit trite.
lots of love for her here and we're all hoping she gets better soon.

I'd say definately not that. a plant needs care, watering etc.Cut flowers or an arrangement are only expected to last a week and can go straight in the compost bin.
I'm slightly biased as I make a fresh flower arrangement for myself to enjoy each week.
