Fancy dress etiquette

I’m being dragged to Glasgow in a few weeks to a birthday and 80’s fancy dress is the theme.

I loathe fancy dress. And it’s one of the other half’s friends. I’ve threatened to go as Jimmy Saville. She’s appalled. Is he a now a no no as regards fancy dress. She is also refusing to go dressed as a child and sit on my knee all night.

Acceptable?

Any other decent 80’s suggestions if the above is deemed a little tasteless...

Did see a picture pop up on my Facebook page recently of a married couple in Fred & Rose fancy dress. It did look effective and it did make me chuckle.

Can’t do that one due to the other half losing someone she knew at the arena bombing. If I wanted a divorce it’d work but I don’t!

A quick google and the number of available outfits and suppliers would suggest there are a folks out there with a similar dark sense of humour could be a goer.

I don’t like fancy dress at all, but either enter in the spirit or don’t go!

Plenty of high profile 80s characters to choose from without trying to be offensive , which will ultimately make you look like a fool,
