Hi All,

I have large pipework installation happening this weekend at work and didn't realise but one of the 16" valves has an 1-1/4" x 8 UN-2B thread tapped into it. Can anyone recommend a supplier to try that supplies mainly to the oil and gas industry as this is an odd size outside of the oil and gas industry so finding anyone with stock is difficult!

Thanks

What's the fitting for? pneumatics to an actuator, is it a greaser to the body ? a bit more info and I'm sure we can fathom it out.
If its air and a shutdown valve could it be so big to allow the volume of air to escape quick enough to me a desired closing time?

Can provide certified for oil and gas.
I assume your looking for fasteners?

If its an oil and gas installation the company will have there preferred fittings if the correct fittings are not used the job will or should be rejected. It part of the QA/QC to ensure the project sticks to one manufacturers fittings, this was a big problem in the 80's as certain fittings from different manufactures will fit together but not certified to do so, many failures occurred due to this mainly at higher pressures.
The project specs should be available which should state whose fittings are required.
This is all to do with tubing and not piping.
I personally have had to rip out miles of incorrect tubing to valves due to either the small bore or the length of the run affects the speed of the valve either opening of closing to the detriment of process.
This of course does not mater if its a body bled or greaser, but saying that they should be supplied by the valve manufacturer or who has build the valve itself.

the go to fitting people in the UK was Swagelok

That's a point - I read fittings and jumped immediately to hydraulic, but that thread in that size isn't anything obvious fitting wise - it is a API fastener size for a range of stuff though.

OP - what specifically are you after?

I did the same thinking of actuators.

Thanks for all the replies, I managed to find a supplier.

I appreciate everyone trying to help, I really don't want to seem ungrateful but lots of people were overthinking this and I dare say not not too familiar with thread standards. The valve isn't being used in an oil and gas environment but being 16" is generally a size sourced for that environment. The thread spec 8UN-2B is common to oil and gas and not normal industry, hence why I was just after a supplier that supplies to the oil and gas industry a lot. Some Googling around and I found somebody pretty helpful with stock.

I manufacture precision turned parts so feel free to give me a nudge if you come unstuck again. I'd be happy to help.

Why do you say not standard size.

Sounds standard size for work we do in N Sea etc.

Are you used to metric. Have you forgotten imperial since we left the EU?

Yes I am far more used to the metric system, however with 15 years in industry it's become pretty impossible not to come across imperial occasionally as well. But in the the UK, standard imperial sizes are normally UNC or UNF, I needed some 1-1/4" fixings, normal pitch for that would be 7 TPI which would be available from nearly every fixings supplier in the UK. 8UN is not standard to the UK, so no I haven't forgotten Imperial since leaving the EU, just can't get 8UN easily in the EU.
