The cold, wet and windy weather today took me straight back to summer holidays at the seaside in the late fifties and early sixties.

Had it been a normal February temperature it probably wouldn't have transported me but there I was, a little lad braving the elements in Selsey Bill or Wittering being instructed by mum and dad to make the best of it.

Somebody once gave me a small French cake that had been dipped in tea, and it took me right back to when I was a child and my Aunty used to give me exactly the same thing.

In a bar a couple of weeks ago after work and a song came on that was big in the 90s house scene and it took me straight back to copping off/a feel of who I was cracking on with at the time. Happy days.

Bain Marie, Rodney, Bain Marie.

I'll tell you one thing that is my 'Madeleine Moment', though. The bass line from the Jackson Five's record I Want You Back.

It's a cracking bass line, but it takes me back to an evening in 1969 when I was standing in the fine rain typical of Swansea at the bus terminus at Mumbles, waiting for a bus to town. There was a cafe there at the time, and they had a juke box. I Want You Back was on, but all I could hear from outside was the bass line coming through the rain drop marked glass of the window.

Whenever I hear this song today, I am taken right back to the feeling of being outside on my own in the rain, compared to how warm, bright and comfortable it looked inside. Never fails.

My dad was in a TV documentary about some country show or something. On it there was a lost kid he was in charge of who he was absolutely vile to on camera. Took me right back so it did.

I can imagine thousands of viewers saying 'what a total ' all at the same time.

5, 4, 3, 2, 1 by Manfred Mann.

Primary school was a bus ride away in the next village to home. The funfair was being set up one day as I went to school and was fully functioning when I went home. I took the bus home, took almost all of my birthday money, took the bus back and blew the lot. I was ten. It was the most anarchic thing I had ever done. The song was playing on the Waltzer and when I hear it now I can still feel the excitement, the absolute glee of it.

Back in early 1970 i suspected the then GF playing away.
I parked up the road late one night in Feb and waited and waited and waited
Bridge over Trouble water had just come out and it seem they were playing it every 10 mins
It was frigging cold and even runnnig the engine every 15 mins wasn't making a dent in the temp
then the windscreen began to ice over and i decided to hang on until she came home
Started onset of hypothermoia, or felt like it.
Long story shortened .yep she had gone over the side so i buggered off home wasn;t worth the waste of time talking

Even today whenever i hear that tune i start shivering uncontrollably even iat 25 C in july

Other songs do whisk the mind back to happier times but that one and my body temp drops 10 degrees!

“We have joy, we have fun we have seasons in the sun” reminds me of a sex craved girl I once went out with.

Thick as a lump of wood but always up for anything, it lasted about a year.

Since found out she had some kind of breakdown a few years later and died.

Reading your post just now took me straight back to the atmosphere of those hedonistic nights in Bredbury Hall Country Club in 1969/70 when we used to dance & party 'til dawn and then cook our own bacon & egg breakfasts before starting a brand new day and doing it all over again.
I shudder to think about what was living in those settees in the dimly lit "Members' Lounge" yikes

Happy days! cloud9

I remember just before Christmas one morning in the early hours driving back to my girlfriend's house in my TR-2 with the hard top on, and six of us in it.
Changing gears was... interesting. wink

Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Relax. Always takes me back to a pub in Basingstoke at lunchtime in early 1984 with Relax seemingly on an endless loop. I had just bought a Suzuki GS750 for a ridiculously cheap price from an auction. Used the bike for 3 years and sold it for a good few pounds more than I payed for it.

Both to do with soap and smells of soap

Wrights Coal Tar Soap, still on sale but not as strong as the original, took me back to bath time as a small boy

Palmolive Shaving Stick, a great product and again still on sale, took me back to being in the bathroom when my father had a shave..

Reading your post takes me back to when I spent an evening in the company of John Sykes and his wife a few years back at Frogg Manor in Cheshire, I with a Friend who owned a pub down the road, who knew him fairly well.
Hearing some of the stories about what you lot got up to was.....er..... shall we say an eye opener?

I seem to get this all the time (and I'm only 30, yet have a very eclectic taste in music). I often smile to myself when something comes on the radio I haven't heard in years and I remember some part of my teenage years. God we got up to some stupid st!

1986 ish, the Magnum Leisure centre ice skating rink

It was one of the first places I got to go to without the parents. We were in early so it was empty. The big empty ice rink, the cool air, the quiet.
Then the first song came on, Tears For Fears - Everybody wants to rule the World.

the intro and then the bass line. Stunning.

"Welcome to your life
There's no turning back"

Takes me back every time I hear it.
