Smart rain mac.

I have a Bugatti mac which has been a great success. It has a zip out lining, warm enough in winter and cool enough in summer.
I have a couple of Bugatti trench coats. Classic style as in this; Both very good but I haven't seen them in that style for some years now.
Contrary to popular belief, that's not a Burberry coat Bogart is wearing, it's Aquascutum.
The last time I was in Aquascutum's shop in Jermyn Street they had an almost identical coat in stock.
A bit more than half the price of a Burberry as I recall.
I would however have to judge the Burberry as superior quality.
Okay, I did some shopping around for a mac / trench coat. Disproportionately so, because I never want to buy another.
I ordered one into store at Gieves and Hawkes, but it was unexceptional and returned.
I looked at Aquascutum, and I liked their stuff but they didn't have the right size in any of their range - in the right colour anyway.
Burberry - In the end I bought one of these. The Pimlico in navy. It was very nice but I was going to have to have it altered when I got home, which was a shame when the coat cost quite a lot in the first place.
I had Mackintosh on my list, but couldn't be bothered to order one. However, it turned out that they have a shop virtually opposite our hotel and I called in. They had the exact thing I was looking for and it fitted like a glove. So I bought it and returned the Burberry.
So - I now own a Mackintosh raincoat. Navy, unlined.
_Notes:_
I liked the idea of a classic double breasted Burberry or Aquascutum trench coat, but they just didn't suit me. Looking about, it seemed to me that they didn't seem to suit many people who wore them.
In Burberry there was a little chap in front of the mirror being told by the assistant how great he looked. But he just didn't; he looked ridiculous. The DB trench coat is quite a voluminous garment and not suited to small people in the original cut.

(just the coat will do if you're shy)

You are right though; they don't suit everyone equally.
Good for you for going for what fits and looks best rather than simply a style.
Oddly though, small women can look very good in a classic trench coat.
It's probably more to do with proportions than height, and of course the fit of the particular coat.

They tend to be cut thinner though and most macks are actually very unflattering I think that’s why the military style trench or the 3/4 tailored jackets are more popular. You are right though; they don't suit everyone equally.

SB raincoats look nothing if not boring, in general actually, but in photos especially. Here goes though:
Much as expected. But it's good to see what all the (collected) effort resulted in.
True they are a bit plain, but if it suits you better...
Mackintosh coats that I have seen tend to look good quality, and likely to be as weather proof as anything similar, so a sensible purchase.

The Burberry one was longer and made me look like a navy coloured dalek in comparison.
Not sure if they are still around, but London Fog used to make outstanding raincoats. I have a lovely one myself that comes out every spring.
