Who was wrong?

At the airport waiting to board and a woman makes a call behind myself and my daughter, 10 years old. She starts using the word ‘fk’ repeatedly in her conversation, it’s loud enough for me to hear and guys around us. I shake my head hoping she’ll pick up on this and chill the language out. To my surprise she carry’s on ‘yeah this guy is shaking his head, don’t know what his fking issue is listening to my private conversation’.

I explained to her her language was my issue and asked if she could try and make sentences without swearing when there’s kids around? She wouldn’t have it, but after a few more words she managed to concentrate and pull it together.

I know kids hear the language everywhere but was i over reacting? Personally if I see kids around with their parents my usual sewer mouth is well and truly kept in check. Just struck me as rude today. But maybe I was just overly sensitive. I don’t know? Right or wrong?

I saw a similar situation to this recently myself and the dad said “oi, cut the swearing out please there’s kids here” the bloke on the phone recognised his mistake and apologised immediately.

I have numerous times asked people to temper their language in front of my kids and on pretty much every occasion they have apologised and stopped swearing. This has included groups of young roadmen at the cinema. And on several occasions this ended up with us all having a conversation and a bit of non-sweaty banter. I suspect the way you approach the offender will have an impact.

However, knobs will always be knobs. Seems like you met a knob. And yes she was totally in the wrong.

I have a 5yr old and pulled 2 early 20s lads up on this in a lift today. Dropping F and C bombs in a confined space with a family. Out of order.

They didn’t seem happy to be called out (didn’t apologise or anything) but did back off on the potty mouth.

I know the basics were right but maybe how I approached her escalated it, I was a bit fed up, the conversation had been going on for a minute or so before I interrupted.

When questioned she said she had four kids, which just promoted she should know better and how would she react in my situation.

Anyway, yes, sometimes not worth trying to reason with others!

been told by an police officer that swearing at someone, or in earshot of others in a public place is technically
a form of breach of the peace, and as such a chargeable offence.

In 2001 some people got knifed on the plane, that didn’t end well did it? Also I said shanked, it’s very easy to cut someone with all sorts of things, if the person doing it is so inclined.

OP, you were definitely in the right to have said something if she was effing and blinding like that in front of kids.
