Trying to read an article on Forbes this morning, I started reading and scrolled down through the article looking for the section of interest to me, and suddenly this fk-off huge advert appeared. The stuff shaded in green is the only area of the screen that is actually of relevance to what I'm looking for.

To be fair, the big advert did bugger off eventually, but I wasn't amused...especially as they don't let you view the page properly without turning off their AdBlocker.

I never see ads on PH so I would say the competition is comprehensively lost, or won, depending on which side of the fence you sit on.

There’s cashing in and there’s making the site unusable.

I actually refreshed the page to take the screenshot and it took forever to load and you couldn’t read it properly as the page was moving around loading different things.

1. I use FireFox, not Chrome. Prefer the browser experience
2. I have an ad blocker that works really well...and these sites detect it and won't let you view the content without disabling it. uBlock is on their list of ad blockers they detect too I believe

If there was no way of dodging the ads I’d never be here!

Would probs be on reddit via Apollo, even more!

Using Chrome if you open such sites in incognito then they don't see the ad-blocker, so don't have to switch it off.
Might work on FireFox to?

Firefox here with Adblocker Ultimate and the Forbes page appears to run with no adverts for me.

That Mumsnet page is beyond farce. Threads 1 & 2:

‘How often do you put air in your tyres’
‘How many is to much miles when buying a car’ (sic)

Thank you

Just installed it and tried to view the same page. No adverts at all! Thank you!!!

By comparison, it has only blocked 4 on a full 20 post PH thread.

Other add-on is dead.

Interestingly, most thread titles are along the lines of:

“Help me choose a car with 6 seats. No, wait, maybe 8 seats. Actually, 12 seats. Or maybe 29 seats would be better?”

That seems to mirror some couples I know who rushed out to buy the biggest people carrier they could find as soon as their first child was born, because apparently they had ‘lots of stuff to carry with them everywhere’

The sane ones went back to something normal after a couple of years such as a BMW Touring.
