Whilst I'm sure that we are all rejoicing with unbridled glee at the re-emergence of the proud and patriotic blue passport, is there a glimmer of doubt due to it's.... er.... rather dark shade of black..... er, I mean blue?

You decide.....

Why do so many people presume that so many people care about this?

My old ones were always black, never blue.

I always saw them as blue - not that it matters.

I think it’s psychological projection. I’ve not met anyone who gives a st about passport colour, well apart from chap who bought an EU style holder for his new U.K. passport.

The government clearly cares.

I care more that HMG gave the contract to a French company who subbed the printing to Poland.

Really!

Indeed!

But the Remoaners who constantly bring this up want to paint Leave voters as simpletons easily swayed by an ink pigment. rolleyes It's not true before the ref, it's not true now.

I've met a lot of Leave voters. Not one of them has ever mentioned Passport colour.

What someone else suggested is that Boris is doing this mainly to troll the crying Remoaners. Which I would love to be true biggrin

I had heard that the contract went to France, but I hadn’t heard of the Polish angle.
As a lay person I imagine if true, it was a business decision;
Put simply, U.K. contracts a French Company to make and supply them @ £5.00 each, French Company locates a printer in Poznań, Poland who’ll do the job @ £3.50 each.
Poles are happy, French ecstatic, U.K. don’t care, they’ll knock ‘em out @ £75-85 a pop.

When do the new ones get issued? Apparently people replacing passports are still getting the EU ones at the moment.

For someone claiming not to be a simpleton, you do a fine job of impersonating one. The liberal use of random smilies is a particularly good touch. Well done you.

It really annoyed me when I had to replace my stolen passport. I live in Poland, paid £120ish for the express service and it came about 3 days later direct Polish address. (Less than 100kms from my house) £30 shipping by courier too. £30 can get me a set of wheels shipped from one end of Poland to the other and they won't fit in a jiffy bag.

They also seem much poorer quality than my old one too.

My wife's passport (Polish and also printed in Poland) cost £20 and probably came from the same factory.

I shant be renewing my UK passport again.

Who cares about the colour? I'm just happy it doesn't have European Union printed on the front.

Not true. Replaced mine in September and it no longer says European Union.
