Amazon sent the wrong item...
Discussion
I've never had them do this before
I ordered an item that cost £80 and it's basically the entry level in a range.
The parcel got delivered and I opened the outer box and the item as it doesn't jump out from the packaging which model it is and the one they've sent is the £220 model in the range.
All the email confirmations are for the right item so I 100% ordered the £80 one.
I've literally never tried to return anything to Amazon and I still want the item I ordered.
How easy or difficult is this likely to be?
I don't have a printer to print any sort of return label.

You can take items to Next stores to be returned to Amazon; they bag them up, label them and ship them off... or rather you could before the lockdown. No idea how you do it now!
If you want what you actually ordered, just tell Amazon they shipped you the wrong thing and see what they say to do. There's probably a good chance in the current situation that they just send you what you actually ordered and tell you to keep what they sent you. I suppose they might get whoever delivers the correct item to pick up the other item.

Given their tax set up I'd do the same if it was Amazon selling it. But you might be screwing over a small company who use Amazon as a marketplace. If thats the case I'd return it.

If there's a quick and easy way to return it and get what I ordered that's fine.
Being expected to go travelling around to queue in a shop to return something sent to me in error before I get sent the item I ordered would seem a bit off right now.
I've just taken a closer look and the manufacturers packaging says Model C on it but there's one of those Amazon barcoded stickers stuck on that says Model A and I ordered Model A so I guess they've gone off what it scanned as and not read the box.
I guess they might want it back due to the value, but I ordered a pipe/wire detector for £30 a few weeks ago that said in the item title that it had a case but it was obvious when it arrived that was wrong.
When I complained using chat, they were adamant the description was correct and said they'd send another FOC and to keep the original. Of course the replacement was the same so when I complained again they said keep that and they'd refund the cost. So I ended up with two free.

Was it actually amazon or a fulfilled by amazon seller?
When we send things to amazon we have to label them up ourselves, maybe they have just put model a labels on model b by mistake?

So far as I know this was sent by Amazon in Amazon outer packaging but not sure how to be 100% sure of that.
2 things usually happen:
1. They let you keep it and either a) refund you and let you order again or b) send you a replacement FOC.
2. They ask you to send it back for a refund. Amazon will supply the label for you OR they will refund the cost of the label on receipt. Usually returns are handled by Royal Mail.

I needed to return something a few weeks ago. I did an online chat and they said "just book a courier to return it and we'll pay for it". I asked them to put that in an email, which they did. I then replied to the email and attached the receipt for the courier and was reimbursed within an hour or two.
I ordered a gazebo last year and got two delivered and both were taken out the account
Rang Amazon told them what had happened
Got the refund for the extra one and said they would send a courier to collect in the nexr day or so
Week later no courier, so i rang them to 'give them a nudge'
Lass apologised ,said they had not yet ordered a courier and we could keep it
Fox junior now has a gazebo

That probably would have happened automatically as soon as the package was scanned - if you return through the post office they scan as you hand it over and you get the refund confirmation moments later.Nicko_12345 said:

It might not even be from the seller. When we send things to amazon we have to label them up ourselves, maybe they have just put model a labels on model b by mistake?
Amazon do a "co-mingling" service where identical items in multiple locations are considered interchangeable, and when any order is placed with any seller (in the scheme), any item can be sent.
I.E. if you send a pallet of CDs to a warehouse in London, but a customer in Scotland buys the CD and another seller has sent the same CD to the warehouse in Scotland, your order is fulfilled from the Scottish warehouse with someone else's stock.
Of course, if the other seller mislabelled the product, that could be a real mess.
