Odd things old people do

When I was a kid I had two spinster Aunts that lived together.
They were born at the beginning of the 20th century.
They babysat me when I was really young and I would visit a lot because I got close to them.
If we went out shopping or for anything else they would unplug everything in the house, say the bus was at 0930, they would stand next to each other by the fireplace with outdoor clothes on and everything unplugged.
Then at 0915 we would walk to the bus stop which was outside the house.
They would never have a colour TV.
My memories of Coronation street,Dallas,Emmerdale Farm, Crossroads and last but not least the Darts ( John Lowe, Jocky Wilson Etc ) we’re in black and white.
They never had wall to wall carpets.
Every morning would see the carpet Eubanked and the floor edges mopped.
They hand washed their clothes, they also had a mangle. The mangle later gave way to one of the upright spin dryers.
Everyday, every potted plant was put outside along with the budgie in his cage, if it rained the budgie stayed in.
They would finish each other’s sentences.
One Aunt loved walking. We would walk for miles and a large local family that lived near, we would knock on and take their kids with us ( making friends that I still talk to now and I’m almost 50 ).
I had an unhappy home life as a kid, the two eccentric Aunts brought a ray of sunshine into my life, all my happy childhood memories are spent with those two.
One had a stroke one year after retirement sadly, the other lived another ten years and passed while I was serving in the Army.
P.S imagine having to unplug every electrical device in your house before leaving it now

I had 3 spinster great aunts who were born at the end of the 19th century and always live together - I guess they and your aunts were part of the generation who didn't marry because post WW1 there weren't enough men left for all of them to marry They were born at the beginning of the 20th century.

Yrs later I found out they weren't a couple of aunts, they were a couple.
