As per title interested to hear what people are doing.

We have a year 6er, the school is splitting the class and they’re doing two days in per week with a deep clean on a Wednesday, staggered starts etc.

I know some who aren’t sending their’s in and some who haven’t decided yet..our’s is going in. Mind that could all go out the window if his Covid test some how comes back positive (being tested for a research study).

Yep, after a good bit of umming and ahhing we’ve decided to send our Receptioner in. I don’t think there’s a right or wrong answer, but it’s got to happen at some point and ours keeps asking about going to school so we thought might as well be back in to understand it from outset. Estimate from the mums chat group is 1/4 to 1/3 of the class heading back.

Serious question: are you umming and aahing because you're worried about the kids themselves, or about you/your extended family?

In Scotland so not looking like a question for us before August. But we have discussed and if it was now, we would be sticking at home.

The boy has residual compression on trachea from a surgery a few years back and his mum has long term conditions which make her more vulnerable to problems with pretty much all illnesses, particularly respiratory. So we are probably going to continue to lie lower than most for longer than most.

I’ve got one in reception and one joining next year from pre school. Both will be staying home.

They’ve been home for 12 weeks, I don’t see the point in being back for 6 again before being off for another 6.

At their age they’re learning social interaction and the environment they’d be going back to doesn’t fit a model of care I’d require for them. Whilst I’m borderline in the ‘at risk’ category my decision has been made based on what I believe is best for them rather than me.

100% sending my reception class 5 year old in on 1 June. There is no real health risk to him and he needs to maintain the progress he’s been making in ‘key worker’ school.

Me. 3yr old boy going back. The majority of parents appear not to be sending their kids back to his little nursery school, so there'll be an amalgamation of classes (which I think is a good thing as he'll have to learn to deal with unfamiliar faces), but he really needs the socialisation they get at that age and the risk is tiny to him and not much greater for us.

Yes.

7 and 8 year olds, but they've been going to school throughout. Me and my wife have both had the virus (flu lite), so no concerns. I would be also be happy if they scraped social distancing in primary. More risk of injury or death doing the school run.

However, none of us are vulnerable, they might not be going back if one of us was!

Wife is in an at risk category. Although the national charity that support her illness have done a research study and suggested that she probably shouldn’t be.

We have one in Y3, so he’s not going back yet. School have decided to stagger the 3 returning groups over 3 weeks, so I don’t see my boy getting back before summer, even if the Gov tell the schools they should.

Daughter is at a local nursery who are reopening June 1st. She’s not going back until my boy goes to school.

Main reason for this is wife’s sister and her husband are both teachers And now expected back to work. Their kids are Y2 and Y11, By a strange twist of circumstance they moved house last year, the Y11 walks to school but that’s obviously closed. The Y3 school is open but is near their old house, 15 mins away. The parents work at two different schools. Both 20-30m drive.

They can go to school as key workers Kids, but there’s no before/ after school clubs open, so they’ll be coming here each day for education instead.

I have a year one who is due to go back on 2nd June, but we won't be sending her back. Mainly because we also have a year 4 who can't go back yet and it seems silly to send only one, as it brings no benefit in terms of childcare and it seems pretty unfair on the one who would have to go.

I'm lucky in that I am a post grad student and my wife is brilliant and a part time TA in another school, so they have been getting a really good education at home. I'm not overly worried about Covid as we are all under 40 and pretty healthy, but I do have doubts about how pleasant and conducive to learning the concentration camp rules that the school are putting in place will be...

I do think it's important for kids to get social interaction, but I'm not sure how much they will actually get at school, and having two at home who are quite close in age means they are always playing together. If we just had one child, or couldn't provide a good level of education, they we would definitely be sending them back.

Year 6er going back on June 2nd, split class although there may only be 20 of them.

My Yr12er has been chomping at the bit to get back to 6th form. That is June 8th, 3 days a week.

My Yr1 grandson is going back he actually did a couple of days last week as he's really struggled with not seeing his friends and the lack of structure and he's just not been into the homeschooling.

My daughter has had some pretty stty comments on the school year WhatsApp group about sending him back, making her feel like a crap mum, her SiL has made the odd comment too, she's said she's not sending her kids back until there is a vaccine!!

I think that's fine TBH as long as I and everyone else doesn't have to subsidize her and her family if they can't work because of child care issues and the schools don't provide any form of teaching support for them smile

Mine is going back to the childminders, its not really school, but still.

After the lockdown, I have a whole new respect for childminders/teachers etc.

Yet the same people will have been clapping for keyworkers who’ve been sending kids in throughout.
Everyone has to make their own mind up as to what’s the right thing to do, I think they’re trying to strengthen their own decision making by judging others.. there’s no ‘right’ answer or winners here.

5 yo son going back on Monday. School sound like they're on top of things, classes of 10 kids with a teacher and 2 assistants that don't mix with another group all day. Staggered drop off/pick up times, have to wear different clothes each day so previous days clothes can be washed straight away, strict handwashing etc. He's looking forward to seeing his friends. I think he will really enjoy being in a smaller group, he used to get stressed out with the noise especially at lunchtimes.

Some parents on the WhatsApp group being funny about it but my wife's already had C-19 and me + the kids had no symptoms so don't see the risk to us.

It's been nice having the kids around but we're all getting to the point where we need to get back to normality, mental health starting to suffer, short tempers and he's quick to get frustrated/angry despite us taking the kids for walks, bike rides etc there's only so many times we can wander round the same paths.

Nursery is opening on the 1st Jun, first month is optional, we have to pay from the 1st of July.

I am a bit more pragmatic than my OH and think our daughter should go back as she needs the social interaction and we are in a low case area.

My OH is very doom and gloom and risk averse, but she also thinks we have already had it.

I will push towards her going back, nursery will have been open, at least partly for a month.

Got a 6 year old going back. After working from home for the last 9 weeks with her and her 2 year old sister running riot in the house we're all ready for it lol.

Look at the stats, both the children and me and my wife are incredibly low risk of getting poorly, nevermind seriously ill. If my child was spending time with elderly or at risk family members I'd probably have a different opinion.

Usual 'Karens' in the WhatsApp group think it's a disgrace cause that what her social media tells her too. rolleyes
