Affordable stuff made in Britain
Discussion
Hello All,
After reading the stuff made in Britain thread and not being able to afford a lot of the things in there, I was wondering if there is anything that's made in Britain that most folk could afford. I'm not wealthy just working class - subjective I know, as is affordability.
I would normally get my shoes from Clarks with a spend of around £50 last me a few years and I'm happy. Looked it up and most of their shoes are made abroad. The reason I picked shoes is because I was looking for some shoes and after looking at the made in Britain thread decided most shoes in there are quite expensive. I also wanted some Sleeved "T" shirts again what's available from Next and the like are affordable but not made in Britain.
I look forward to recommendations of affordable everyday stuff made in Britain.

Slightly O/T, but the Clarks Outlet web site sometimes has decent discounts if you're happy enough with the shoes.I perceive that things made here are more expensive, but it'll be interesting to see how wrong I am.

I can't think of much in the way of clothing that is "made in the UK" short of some very expensive designer things. After reading the stuff made in Britain thread and not being able to afford a lot of the things in there, I was wondering if there is anything that's made in Britain that most folk could afford. Nearly all T-shirts , jackets / coats / hoodies come from China.
Even Jaguar is owned by an Indian company!
The cheapest option is always going to be made abroad.
Primark T-shirt £2

Made in the UK T-shirt £22

Are you willing to pay an extra £20 for a T-shirt? Some people may spend over £700 on a T-shirt

There's a handful of people willing to pay a premium, be that for the location where the T-shirt is made, it's quality or it's label but when you look at which retailers are successful it looks like most people want cheap.

All pretty cheap and made in Gloucester. The factory's next to the railway line to Cheltenham.

Primark, which is a huge seller of cheap clothing uses factories in many countries: https://globalsourcingmap.primark.com/enRoughly half of those factories are in China.

"Want" or "can only afford" cheap?I know us PBCDs are rocking it financially but there are many people struggling to put food on the table for their families, and no, they don't have £100pm Sky TV packages with 70" TVs and the latest iPhone.

Was going to mention these too, not high street cheap but easily the most affordable, while still decent quality, made in UK clothing around.https://communityclothing.co.uk/collections/menswe...
Banton Frameworks glasses, made in Scotland and similarly priced to some lines you'll find in specsavers or wherever

There are quite a few things still made here, but the mass produced stuff tends to come from abroad. You could probably find one of most items made here, there is no need to shop from abroad. Maybe electronic goods might be an issue, TV's, computers etc, but cars, food, clothing, furniture, crockery; most things you need are made here somewhere.

Parent company ownership is one consideration, however more important to what I think is the spirit of the thread is making an effort to buy products where the manufacture of the items contributes to the livelihood of a UK manufacturing workforce.Meridius said:

This kinda tat that you'd buy in Primark or Asda would fall all our of shape and be in the "garage clothes" pile after more than a handful of washes.
