A closed pub was mentioned in a conversation with a colleague earlier.

I had a nose on Google & this old barn is located in the car park:

There is a sign on the door (looks like it's routed from wood).

It reads VFW Outpost 10447.


Could this be something to do with Veterans of Foreign Wars? Sounds like it might, but seems an odd place for it.

Might also be linked to Upper Heyford, which was just up the road.

yes - spot on "VFW Posts" scatter the US hence it would make sense that the one you spotted was an "outpost"...

I was at school in Chesterton and there were forever F111's overhead - Upper heyford being as US base then so it presume it had been earlier too....
