I don’t think I could ever bring myself to pay 450 quid for a T-shirt no matter who’s brand name is on the front.

I thought I was extravagant paying £600 for my kilt outfit.

Has anybody on here ever splashed out an extraordinary amount on a single item of clothing?

Yes I have a very nice coat for work that has lasted me a fair few years. Although it may not be extraordinary in some people’s opinion.

Nope, Balenciaga is super expensive, probably made in China or Taiwan in a sweat shop.

I remember being in House of Fraser and noticing a rack of reduced T-Shirts, they were something like £80 originally and down to £50, the quality of the material was appalling.

They are around £350, they are probably the most expensive item of clothing that is in the house.

Most expensive items of clothing I've bought are two Woolrich coats, both at half price from RRP though. I think one was just over £400, but it's so thick and is needed when I attend the football in winter.

I like designer clothes, but you can get them a lot cheaper than their RRP if you shop around and know people.

You go beyond the 'expensive but hand-made / great quality' to 'obscenely expensive for no real reason'... Plain cotton hoodies for £700, mental....

Go into Harrods kids clothes section. You can spend several thousand for a designer coat for a 4 year old that will be too small for them in 6 months time.

Clearly the kids of Russian oligarchs need these though for when they're being pushed by the nanny through Hyde Park in their Aston Martin branded buggy.

I walked into a shop in Liverpool called Seven or something daft. You had to walk through a tunnel filled with LED's on your way in. It looked like a small clothes store so had a peek in. First pair of half decent looking trainers I picked up were £275. Back down, straight out. Figured I didn't belong in there! I do have a pair of fabric style trainers I bought from Primark that I've walked hundreds of miles in at this point and they're only just starting to wear out, really comfy too. I wish they sold more, they were only about a tenner!

I wouldn't say £600 is expensive for a kilt outfit in the slightest, I can see £600 worth of materials and labour to make one.

I once paid £350 for a pair of made to measure bike gloves, sounds expensive until you break it down, £25 ish for materials which leaves £325 or 10 hours @ £32.50/hr to make them. Take into account wages, rent, rates etc and I doubt there was that much profit in them.

Anyone asking £450 for a tee shirt can fk right off though!

I think a coat is fair enough, especially if you use it for something like football. I spent 400 quid on a coat when I went to Iceland and never regretted it for a moment, and it will last for years to come

Yeah that's fair for something practical like a decent coat and should last for many years, so a good investment.

Same with things like Church's shoes.. Few hundred quid but generally worth the money for the quality and craftsmanship. But then for double the price of those, you can get a pair of made-in-China sock-trainers with a big logo crudely slapped on the side..

It's all relative, high end/priced stuff like Balenciaga is bought in the main by the rich, to a billionaire who's daughter has a credit card paid off by daddy every month it's nothing, it's just like us normos spending a tenner on a T-shirt.

Think I paid about £1000 for my leathers but they have survived two crashes on the track and still going strong (after being repaired of course).

I’ve paid over £1000 for suits but I rarely
buy them and usually get over ten years of wear out of them (business seems to be moving to smart casual and I’m going
to retire soon so doubt I will buy any more). Same with most clothes to be honest. I hate clothes shopping so generally pay extra for quality but then wear them until they fall apart. Sometimes embarrassing when we are looking at old photos and it strikes me that I’ve still got and wear some of the clothes!

I bought myself and my wife a sheepskin flying jacket each, around £1000 for the pair.

However, it is basically a couple of peeled sheep, so i don't feel like I've been ripped off, they are VERY warm and look great.

I bought a whole outfit for a mates wedding in Greece, it all came from Versace and D&G.

"RRP" of the outfit was about £1200, think I paid about £200 from both of their outlets at Bicester Village.

I still wear my Church and Lobb brogues bought when I was around 20 - so nearly 30 years. They've been resoled and heeled a few times.

a t shirt doesnt know if its from asda or its 300 quid
it still costs the same to make, perhaps the cotton is a bit dearer

personally i try and get middle of the road stuff so you dont look back and look like a tool
but your kids arent on jam butties

Nothing wrong with jam butties and my everyday t-shirts are from ASDA - 3 for 7.50GBP.
