Levi's jeans

I bought a new pair of Levi's from a Levi's shop in the USA in April last year. I wear them regularly but not all the time and I already have a couple of wear holes in them. In my mind these things should last for years. Anyone know if it's a product that has been gradually reduced in quality over the years or do they just wear out quicker than I remember?

Modern ones I've bought haven't lasted at all. I think they're widely acknowledge to be inferior now.

I bought a couple from the outlet on Staten Island as they were dirt cheap but I certainly wouldn't pay the prices in London Levis stores again, even in the sales.

Thats not right i only wear levis and i have never yet managed to wear a hole in any of them and some pairs are now 20 years old.

All my 550's (bought in USA) have worn through the knee/thigh but they do get a lot of use!!

I recall the fabric being thicker in the 60's though.

Wear jeans 24/7 , cheap brands never last at all but Levis are superb . Might be 3 x the price of “value” jeans but well worth it imo .

I suppose you can't blame it all on poor materials and manufacture. Fashion now does demand different cuts, and finer fabric, but the standard across the same model should remain the same in theory you'd think, which is why thy offer so many variants.

I've had quite a few pairs of Levi's from USA outlet stores over the years and they've last well to be honest. I don't wear them much now as I prefer Edwin or Nudie for style and fit but in terms of quality, I've always found them OK.

I have several pairs of 501s, 504s and 506s. Two pairs have gone through over the left front pocket. I keep my keys and loose change in that pocket, and the friction seems to have worn through the denim but not the pocket lining. The otber poclet holds my phone, and those are all still perfect.

These are probably between 5 and 10 years old, and they're all just fine apart from that.

There is nothing fashionable about 550's and they are marketed as traditional workwear jeans. Not available in UK/EU, which is a mystery, and I have asked Levi directly why they aren't and I cannot import them either so only able to buy in the States.

Hope that will change after 2021!

I'm impressed anyone keeps a pair of jeans for 20 years or so.

The biggest issue is changes in fashion dictating that your jeans are suddenly unfashionable, but I suppose if you only buy jeans in a fairly timeless cut, then it won't be much of an issue.

That's nowt, I still have a Ben Sherman shirt that was bought in the early 80's!

And a collection of Levi jeans (most with holes in) that span 30 years!!

Must have a clear out...

Used to wear 501s, now prefer Gap jeans. Never had a hole.

Sleeping aside, I personally find jeans to be one of the most uncomfortable items of clothing ever invented.

I have a few pairs of jeans, but just about anything else is more comfortable.

I used to only wear Levi’s jeans, but they were wearing out so quickly in the end I stopped bothering - 6 months pretty standard. Wouldn’t pay proper money for Levi’s clothing.

Carhartts last well.

I was under the impression that unless you buy them from a retail shop in Europe, you're getting sub par stuff. American and outlet shops sell sub par stuff.

Macys in New York, 2015, 3 for $100 I think it was. They last 4 years.
Bought 2 for £100 in Cheshire oaks last year and they are still in a good condition.
