What little things make you happy?

A couple from me:

I love being up in the morning on a Saturday before the Mrs and watching motorbike stuff on YouTube on the big telly with a cup of tea. I can do that when she's sat next to me too, but IT'S NOT THE SAME!

Another thing recently, I read an article recently about a radio DJ (classic FM I think) who had been very unwell and one quote from her was "music is the opposite of despair". Just cheered me up for the rest of the morning.

Having a lazy morning in bed, with a cup of tea on the go, and the cat snuggled up next to me

Sitting in mountain bothy with the fire blazing and a dram - or just sitting anywhere in the wilderness with a fire and a dram, preferably next to a loch.

After being slipperless over the summer I found a new pair I liked the look of and ordered them, and I’m very pleased with what’s arrived.

I love getting into bed after nights. Something good about everyone going to work when I'm on my way home.

I'm sorry to hear that mate, really. I had to make that decision 18 months ago and it still hurts now.

Lots of things make me happy, you just have to allow yourself pleasure from insignificant things. One thing I find oddly satisfying is starting a new pencil. I'm a joiner and theres something pleasing about removing a shiny new staedtler 4H from its box, in perfect condition with no blemishes or teeth marks (yet). I also date my pencils by chiselling a small flat section at the base of the pencil and carefully wright the date. Why, christ knows. Was idly wondering how long a pencil lasts me so dated it, now it's habit. I only use one pencil at a time before starting a new one and I find it disproportionately frustrating if I lose a half used pencil and have to start a new one, worse if I then find the half used one and I have the dilemma of which one to use. Yeah I know, i think I'm mental aswell .

Sitting with a cup of tea and laptop admiring the laminate floor I fitted in my lounge this week at a considerable financial saving thinking it's not bad for a first attempt.

All the back ache and knee pain was worth it.

I think.

And for the poster who said his recently departed dog, I feel for you and could not agree more.

Only just noticed this post. Sorry to hear that, had to do that stty trip last year with my parents/our family dog. I couldn't remember the last thing that made my cry before that.

Depends what I'm doing, if im drawing out plans and rods then I could easily do a pencil in a week. Normal use, so some plans and rods, marking out timber, little bit of paperwork back scratching, lots of thoughtful tapping and it could see up to a couple of months active service assuming I manage to retain it for the entire duration of its fully operational life span. Usually wear them down to around 60mm then they are put into retirement (compass duties).
