Cancelling plans

In an awkward situation, myself and my partner have just found out we are early stages of pregnancy, this is a few months after going through a miscarriage which our friends know about.

We have a day planned drinking with said friends who know that we have been actively trying and everything, they have managed to source a babysitter for this day out, we feel very guilty but anything other than cancelling is going to be far too obvious and its too early atm for people to know.

So we are thinking of cancelling, i hate letting people down especially seeing as they have got a babysitter for it, we both do want to go but know that any excuse is going to be very obvious so not really sure what else we could do?

Anyone been in a similar situation and have any alternative options?

There are loads of bull*hit reasons that you could give them, but it's normally easier if you just tell the truth from the off. When they find out at a later date that you fobbed them off with lies, that'll probably upset them more than anything else.

Just go. Drinking when you're trying is no good either (for either of you...). They all know you're trying and you've had a miscarriage so no one will bat an eyelid.

We went out at that stage of pregnancy and told one set of friends who got loads of "G&Ts" for my wife. She drove, and I nearly told everyone as I was lashed when the "taxi" arrived.

Its not often we get together but her not drinking will be obvious no matter what lie we make up.

Any reason you can't just tell them? If they're close enough to have known about the last time, they should be good for this time.

Be on some antibiotics so can’t drink?

Really? Just have her drive. Tell them she’s been ill and is on medication, she’s got a surprise work thing at 8am the morning go after.

Choose any of the above and go out.

Your part of the baby making process is already completed so just make up some excuse why the mrs can't go and you can go get on it all day.

You may as well make the most of it as you're not going to get many more chances in the next several years

If you wish to keep it secret until a specific time, then of course the lady has some antibiotics for I**nsert Reasonable Illness you are happy to disclose** and thus has to stick to the soft drinks.

After a bit of thought i think i may just tell them the truth, they would 100% keep it to themselves and they were supportive last time, and it means we can all catch up which we dont get to do these days.

Err... he's not suggesting they go and get stfaced at expense of the child, so the whole child > booze equation doesn't figure.
