Instead of all the doom mongering and negativity that swamps every news site and paper I thought I'd start a thread where we can look on the brighter side of things, so for the opening gambit.

It's now technically the law to go day drinking instead!

Covid presented the opportunity to do supermarket work when I'd been out of work and really wanted to try something new. That little bit of retail experience helped to get another retail/warehouse role that really suits me. I'm happier in work than I have been the past couple of years.

Funnily enough my mum was/is a self employed hair dresser, Covid obviously put a stop to that and she started working in the local Tesco as a result, she couldn't be happier doing it. Not having to worry about sorting accounts/having any holiday being a day unpaid has made a big difference. No plans to go back to hairdressing in any way shape or form bar doing bits for the odd friend if a favour is needed

I have stronger relationships with the oldies in our village who I didn’t know beyond nodding acquaintance previously - a lovely bunch.

I haven’t been dragged round the Metro Centre. Real positive that!

I ate breakfast, lunch and dinner with my wife, and 2 and 4 year olds everyday for 3 months and got to see them play daily. I’ll never get that opportunity again.

My daughters, who are in the post graduate / flat share / have almost but not quite left home fully stage of life, have come back to live with us so I get to see them more, some days they cook dinner and one of them gives me free lockdown hair cuts.

With nowhere to go, no one to see, I finally finished my car restoration.

My job is pretty secure, I've worked all the way through, 3 months worth from home spending much more time with my wife and stepson and the two hounds. Last month my wife agreed with my man maths AGAIN and I bought a brand new motorcycle!

No commuting for 6 months has allowed me the time to do all manner of things around the house that have been needing done for years.

Not seeing the more irritating individuals at work in that time is also a win.

My neighbour is now working which means I no longer have to listen to him playing the same few bars over and over and over on his guitar all day.

I've been working from home since March. So, not putting 2000 miles per month on my car.

Working from home means I've been able to spend much more time with my wife & kids. I've not had to sleep in hotels 3 nights / week for six months.

I've had time to start teaching our eldest, 6 years old, the basics of reading music and playing the piano. He's loving it. Violin & guitar to follow soon.

I've managed to do loads of work / repairs to our geriatric house (it's about 170 years old) that I've not had time to do since we moved in.

Good for her! I think/hope the situation has woken up a lot of people from their Matrix-like rat-race existence, to re-establish what's important.

At the moment, no more commute into the office and have been working at home since March, which means both money and time saving.

That despite COVID, I was able to train for and complete a John O'Groats to Lands End cycle ride, I did it in 10 1/2 days and have raised over £6k in sponsorship for the Hospital Chemo unit that looked after my friend until he passed away in the summer last year.

Everything I took for granted has become more pleasurable. Nice long walks. Commuting at less busy times feels special - one or two days a week - every journey is like a Michael Portillo train episode.
