This year's Poppy Appeal

A lot of things have changed through lockdown, one of which is the annual Poppy Appeal's street collections. I've been involved with the Army Cadet Force for almost 10 years - each year our detachment has raised over £5000 for the royal British Legion. Sadly there are no face to face collections this year - it's disappointing for all of us.

This year, my cadets have come up with a fairly novel method of fundraising - they are collectively marching for over 1.7 million paces to commemorate each and every service man and woman from the UK and Commonwealth in two world wars and numerous other conflicts.

It's very easy to criticise young people today - these young adults are a credit to their parents and their community.

We have a JustGiving page, and we are hitting social media and the local press. Any other pointers for fundraising in these rather strange times?

On our local village FB group the lady who organises the collections every year said the Royal British Legion have said that they can do door to door collections. Shame if there are different rules for different locations but I guess some places are in local lockdown. Well done to your cadets it's a great idea to get around the lockdown.

Why would you write your initials at the bottom of every single post when we can already see your name right next to your post?!?

There are several posters who do it, and I have absolutely no idea why.

This sounds like an excellent idea and a credit to your cadets. I am happy to contribute and will look out for the Justigiving page. To me it looks like you are doing all the right things to get the message out, although I am no expert.

Dibble, LM, I usually enjoy your posts which are customarily good humoured and interesting but I thought replying to this thread solely to complain about the OP signing off to be a bit off.
