I was brought up in East London, a favourite outing for us was a day trip to Southend-on-Sea.

One of my earliest memories when aged maybe 5 or 6 is of having a tantrum on the train and throwing my shoes out of the train window. I remember the panic in my my mind the moment I’d realised what I’d done and that it wouldn’t end well. It didn’t.

Any more?

Sitting on my grandads knee and him insisting that I dry between my toes after my bath.

Still do it to this day.

Sat in a high chair and after watching mum use a stapler, i stapled the palm of my hand. It bled big time and i screamed predictably.
I have another memory from being in a hich chair but i'm not going into that one.

Going to my nan's to have a bath on Sundays aged about 5...she would dry my hair with a towel really hard and I still do the same now 60 years later and think of her.

Surely you are too old to still be sitting on his lap.

I remember getting my head stuck in some railings, I was about 4 at the time.

Falling off my bike, hitting a wall with my head and needing stitches. Neighbour took me and mum to hospital in a pinkish Datsun I think. I was wearing checked shorts.
The bike was a yellow one with a solid lever and bar type brake which didn’t work very well!
I pushed it back whilst screaming. Dad was in the front room and just shouted for me to stop crying and being a tart. I was covered in blood.
Aged 4.

I have two incredibly early memories; one of being put to bed in my cot next to my parents bed, and I saw a bluebottle and it made me cry, and another when my mother was pushing me in a pram, when she stopped to talk to a friend. I didn't like us stopping, and I liked it less when my mother's friend put a fir cone in front of my face! I cried until we carried on up the road. I read somewhere that experts thought we only remember things when we learn to speak, but that clearly cannot be correct.

I remember visiting my dad at work
he changed jobs when I was about 2, but I remember details about the shop that was confirmed by my parents years later,
also crossing the road to go to the local corner shop and chippy next door, free scraps for kids....

and the wall at the bottom of the road we hit on a pram wheel cart, I still have the dent in my forehead decades later.

I was asked by my daughter only yesterday what my earliest memory is.

I don’t have many memories at all from before I was about 8/9 years old ... which feels odd but I have zero idea why!

I do have one memory of playing with my trainset when I was about 4 which I think is my earliest memory

Then a second which I think was my 5th birthday and getting a mini skateboard.

A fairly well defined first memory of me, aged 1.

Stuck a key in an electric socket. I don’t remember the exact moment when the key went in, but I do remember the trip to A&E, sat on my Mum’s lap in the front passenger seat, wrapped in her dressing gown.

I'm pretty sure I remember being about 1-1.5 years old being pushed along in my pram and looking up at the sides and the rain cover. It could be a vivid thought, but a wierd one to have.

Getting nipped by an earwig at pre-school aged 4. Bitey bds.

I remember the first time I heard my dad swear, he was painting a skirting board (and carpet it seems) at the time. Now it’s my turn I have a one room exclusion zone for all family members if I’m decorating.

My earliest memory was buying myself a teddy bear/dog in Blackpool with some money my Nan gave me. I named it wagger after my favourite book at the time had a yellow dog in it. I remember it was in Blackpool and I was in a pushchair. I still have it.biggrin I have no idea how old I was.

Absolutely worthless to anyone else but nobody could give me enough money to part with it.

My earliest memories are all somewhat related, I think I was about 3.

I had a tongue tie which caused a few speech problems and can remember going to the speech therapist and being given a teaspoonful of hundreds and thousands by her for trying hard.

I can also recall having a tantrum because my mum had brought the wrong crisps home (see previous speech issues) and how the dog just came and sat quietly with me. I miss that dog :-( still remember vividly when I was told she had been put down (a few years later).

Finally, I can remember going to hospital to have the tongue tie cut and clinging to the underside of the bed as I didn't have a bloody clue what was happening. I can also remember being curled up under one of those holey blankets and being wheeled off to theatre.

Luckily the memories generally get better from thereon!

Sitting on my Dad's knee on the big leather armchair, , was a great time really as even though it was such a minor thing, it is the only one of a few things i remember about him as he died when i was 8.
