Good evening, what company would give you the most grief, cold call, junk emails, junk mail etc if they got hold of your contact details ??

British Gas.

I keep getting calls for the installation of smart meters, despite being on the No Marketing list.

I asked them to stop calling, they said 'we will call you every day until you change your mind'.

Certain religious groups, particularly those that share their name with the art of science.

Reading between the lines it appears you are seeking revenge. If so, please do not engage in posting iPhone 12s or other desireable items well below market price.

I’d agree about scientologisits ... utterly relentless and always from a different mobile number, never the same number twice.

I’m still getting calls after 2yrs (but now down to just one a fortnight roughly)

Oxfam. Took pity during one of their appeals on the telly and made a one off donation online, ticking all the opt out boxes. Got an avalanche of begging letters through the post for the next two years (probably spent all my donation on stamps).

We set up a monthly direct debit contribution to Battersea Dogs home a few years ago and within days they bombarded us with phone calls and mail trying to get us to make a bigger contribution. They were very aggressive and rude when we said no to increased contributions.

We had to threaten then to get the calls stopped and cancelled the DD after one payment. They then kept calling us to ask why we had cancelled the DD and we had to get them blacklisted.

I don't think it was Battersea Dogs home themselves but the agency they employed to raise funds.

We had the same with MacMillan - who ever you warn that you'll cancel the payments doesn't seem to have a mechanism to stop the calls!

It likely falls outside the marketing rules because they have a governmental mandate to install one with every customer.

Just get a smart meter, it wont give you covid.

Same thing happened with British Heart Foundation, made £1000 donation after mother in law died of a heart attack. so many calls and letters asking for more money, a local hospice is just as bad,, including door to door collections when we are isolating, they all ask for direct debits and tell you that they want just £5 a week minimum, even had the foot in the door when I said No.

I wasn't aware the UK branch did this. I know over in the states if you purchase one of there books directly from them, they hound you relentlessly.

Did your paths cross in any way?

Next door neighbour had a bill into the thousands when he switched suppliers and new company was told wrong figures.

There is an organising body that deals with the marketing of Smart meters, I took them to ASa and won because of the lies told in the TV and magazine ads which said, unconditionally, that installing a Smart meter will reduce your energy bills.

British Gas really messed me around when my meter needed changing. An installation was agreed, I asked for a specific time because I would need to close down my business and be home. they didnt turn up.

Another appointment was made, two fitters arrived, they said that they didnt have the right tools to do the job and left.

Another appointment was booked, again I shut down the shop for the afternoon, The meter was to be fitted to the internal garage wall, I have a lot of detailing products in my garage, two weeks after they had been I found that a number of products had gone missing, I complained to BG but they required proof before they would act. Not only that, the fitters had installed the meter high up on the garage wall and the up and over door hit the meter every time it opened, I called BG back to check that this was OK and they condemned their own work and said I had to install a roller shutter door.

Meters? i will keep what I have thank you.

Until you find that your tariff price gets too expensive, should you decide to switch, your only option to actually receive the utility is to have a SM installed. It will get that way eventually.

Virgin Media seem to love a bit of Spam. A lot of junk emails and stuff through the door trying to flog me faster broadband, sports channels, mobile phones. Pretty relentless.

Yeah!

What's wrong with a smart meter?

On most Android and iPhones, you can block callers. On most modern cordless DECT handsets you can block too. I never answer a number I don't recognise and always Google them first - most of the time I just block.

In ye olden days I used to fight fire with fire when I had free time. If someone called me up I would ask to be removed from their lists. We all know telemarketeers lie and say they will remove you. So I always add that I will call back 20 times for each time they call. On the bog, call them; waiting for public transport, call them; waiting for Vikingette at gym, call them. When the same agent gets your call half a dozen times and you've stopped them making targets, they tend to agree!

So if your Mum/wife has had an accident, and it's her friend calling on their mobile to tell you, you won't take the call?

Hmm. Interesting.

Few telemarketers use mobile numbers - most of them will display a landline number 01234 560000.

I took my Mum to Hospital 2 weeks ago, they told me they would call me when she was ready for collection after surgery. Sure enough the phone rang with a withheld number and I knew it was the hospital.

If I do answer a mobile and it's a spammer, I cut off the call and block.
