I've been a Grandad for 7 years and its great.
Like they say "my grandkids are great, I wish I'd had them first".
I've got 3 kids but I don't think I'll be getting any more grand kids. The 2 I have are from my First daughter .
Enjoy them and most importantly tell them stuff. My kids often ask about their grandparents but they're long gone and so are all their stories .

I have four grandchildren. Two live 300 miles north of me in Northumberland and I don’t have anything like the communication with them that I’d like. Mind you, they are two teenage girls so it’s possible their parents don’t have a lot of communication either!
In this day and age that’s my own fault, but it is inevitable that I see more of my other two as they live just round the corner. A kind and intelligent eight year old girl, and a boy just turned two. Went round there yesterday evening to deliver a present at the door, and he has gone over the handlebars on his scooter into a fence. A trip to A&E and a face like he has just gone 12 rounds.

Yes - I have three. Other people (blokes, especially) really are not interested in hearing about your grandchildren.One thing I would say is that if you think your kids grew up fast, grandchildren seem to grow up 10x as fast. If you're thinking of doing things age/size related, like putting play equipment etc in the garden, do it now. If you leave it for a moment they'll be too big.
"Only" a parent here as well, but one of my favourite things about being a Dad is seeing my own parents with my daughters. When growing up with parents one tends not to appreciate them very much. Being able to see what wonderful grandparents they are is an incredible thing to be able to watch as an adult.
My Dad in particular, is far from a stone cold hard man, but has never been one to show emotion or a caring side. This version of him soon disappeared when my daughters came along. He absolutely dotes on them, would quite literally drive the length and breadth of the country to find a certain type of yoghurt one of them wanted, or to pick up that last minute must have birthday present. As I said above - a wonderful thing to watch.

If i had known being a grandparent was so much fun, i would have done it years ago..
Having said that Grandson told us yesterday he got a housepoint for getting 10/10 in spelling, what he didn't make much of was coming 7th out of 2000 in a nationwide maths game
I mean FFS SEVENTH !! OK there are 6 pairs of grandparents getting more exited that me... but there are 1993 who would have liked to be in my position""

If i had known being a grandparent was so much fun, i would have done it years ago..
Having said that Grandson told us yesterday he got a housepoint for getting 10/10 in spelling, what he didn't make much of was coming 7th out of 2000 in a nationwide maths game

(unless you mean a pair of grandparents is 4 people, which I guess it could be, at a stretch)

Two grandsons, aged seven and two. A constant source of joy. They live locally and we see them regularly. Looking after the younger one the other day, I let rip with a rip-roaring fart, to his great amusement. After he stopped laughing, he thought for a moment, went to his change bag and got me the pack of wet wipes. I think he’s going to end up as my carer.

We have one on the way in the next 4 weeks.
Going to be interesting, the eldest is actually a stepson and was 20 when I married and has been more of a brother/friend relationship and it will be interesting to see how the grandson thing works, but I imagine its going to be fun.
Engines and old computers to pull to bits, program, fix.
I hope he/she is an engineer !

Seems common. Parents don't seem to give a rats donkey about their kids but then all of a sudden a grandchild comes along and its like the second coming of Jesus Christ. The parents love it as they can spend their weekends at the pub or getting wasted in their back garden whilst nan nan and pop pop look after sprog and telling everyone how amazing said Christ child is and its just simply the best thing ever to have all this time to spend with their grand kids.
