My mother has a habit of getting words mixed up or getting the wrong end of the stick.

Most recent was when she was following up on a hospital visit when I wrote that I might have to have a biopsy and she wrote back saying having an autopsy wasn’t much fun! Even when I wrote back and said I bloody well hope I don’t need an autopsy it didn’t click she was using the wrong word.

I think my favourite was my stepfather’s anecdote. They were driving through Germany. After quite some time my mum apparently pops up with “that place Ausfahrt must be huge because I keep seeing signs for it”!

Or after watching a news item about a Mail plane ... “what’s the difference between a male plane and a female plane”.

My mother once said "The trouble with your driving Wacky is it's too erotic"

My dear departed Mum had a great way of denying permission if I wanted to do something she disapproved of. I'd say ' Mum, can I do...'
Her reply was sometimes ' I'm sure Paul's Mum wouldn't let him do that' so that'll be no then.

However if I tried the other approach ' Mum, can I do..." Paul's Mum says he can'
Her reply would be ' I don't care what Paul's Mum says'

The logic that only a harassed mother can apply

It’s too cold to snow

It’s too windy to rain

It’s not raining here but it must be somewhere else

Yes, she talks about the weather a lot
