I have just sold a sofa through FB marketplace and been paid through paypal. Buyer wants to send man and van to collect.

Safe, or no?

No, something similar happened to a good friend of
Mine. He lost his item and his money !
Bit of a longer story but that’s the jist of it.

He could take the item (Whatever it is) and get paypal to refund him, claiming he never picked it up.

If the paypal payment is made to friends and family and NOT services then no refund can be claimed. Maybe ask if they will pay via that option?

You are right to refund OP
Use the reason something wrong with buyers address
Then block them from buying any of yer stuff

I told the buyer i have refunded their payment and explained why. They immediately got back to me and gave me mobile phone numbers and their home address and said they would be happy to pay cash on collection.

So in this case, they were not scammers, but better safe than sorry!

No. You can have CCTV of the person collecting, a signature from the person collecting, their blood sample or DNA and PayPals robotic staff will still say that you need proof of posting/delivery. You can argue they are being rediculous and they will still repeat the proof of posting mantra.

eBay & PayPal are recognising that they are losing revenue and I understand that there is now a QR code that the seller can scan from the buyer to confirm collection - Isn't it surprising that they only act when there is lost revenue....
