ebay - buyer wants to return item claiming it is faulty
Discussion
Never had issues before with ebay so this is a new one to me.
Buyer is saying (6 weeks after delivery) that the used electrical item does not work correctly, and has requested a refund and postage label.
It was sold as "no returns accepted" but i gather that does not apply if the buyer cites that the item is faulty.
My view is that within 2-3 days you would know if it worked/didnt, as you would want to test it soon after arrival to ensure you had not been stitched up. It seems odd that it has taken 6 weeks to come to the conclusion that it never worked.
Do i just suck it up (which means i lose out on 2 x postage - 22 quid) or decline the refund saying that you should have requested a refund sooner?
I tested the item for 30 mins before packing it up and sending it, so am confident that it worked when it left me
Thanks all

I would argue that 6 weeks is well outside the return period on a private sale.
Unfortunately Paypal and Ebay tend to side with Buyers.
Reject the refund
Explain that
1) it was tested and worked when shipped
If you have proof of this even better. I film/test everything I sell on Ebay
2) 6 weeks is too long to attempt to return an item on a private sale which initially stated no returns
Posting no return isn't an automatic get out of jail card because if it's mis described etc then the buyer is well within their rights to return.

I'd be really annoyed, £60 is a lot to me because I'm tight.
However, I'd suck it up too!
He'll win, unless you've a photo of the serial number and he sends you another broken one back in the post.
I'm never selling on eBay again, cheap stuff isn't worth the hassle it gets binned and I'd never send anything expensive as you're asking for trouble sadly.

Haha...well it's 90 quid by the time you add postage etc. In the scheme of things not too much, but for a self-employed type who has not worked since June, and doesnt qualify for government assistance then every penny counts at the moment.
To be fair it is more the whole concept. If you receive something, you test it, check for scratches etc, and within 3-4 days you should know whether its a keeper or not. If you privately bought a 2nd hand car, and 6 weeks later asked to take it back, I think we all know what the response would be (in fact there is a very long PH thread on that very subject !!)

If you're going to give in eventually, say no to start with and let them go through the process! To be fair it is more the whole concept. If you’re unfortunately out of work call his bluff and tell him you’ll travel to pick it up and refund him, also state you have the pics with serial numbers etc beforehand. To be fair it is more the whole concept. See if he still wants a refund after that. 1/2 day travel time surely beats posting, lies about receiving etc.
