Weird Christmas Traditions

We have a Christmas fire engine that comes around the area, dressed up in Christmas lights with Santa sat in the front. It's been happening for at least 30 years. People flock out of their houses to see it and in the age of social media there are loads of posts about where it is.



Any weird traditions in your area?

I'd say that's a fairly normal tradition rather than a weird one.

In-laws here for the last 10 years. Wife's brothers have emigrated so there's only us left to have them.

Couple of Tv stars though. If you watched southwest local news at 6 last night you could see them having their vacs.

For the past 5 years now we order a Jamon from Spain to have over Xmas, so this is now our tradition. Cant say its a struggle to get through 5kg of Spain's finest though....

Father Christmas being towed around town on a trailer being towed by a tractor. I thought that was strange but they did it in my wife's town down south and also where my sister currently lives.

He was on the back of a flatbed truck where I used to live (charity collection was for the Lions club), think it's a trailer behind a car here where I am now (charity collection was for the local Scouts).
I thought it was odd when I moved to where I used to live but sounds fairly common.

We use to have that big coca cola truck turn up at work not this year.Weird because we are all adults and could not give a toss.

We have a slightly odd Xmas routine not sure it’s a beloved tradition though.

We don’t really do Xmas day, our sons presents are unwrapped taken out of the boxes and leaked to him starting in November then quietly taken away from him again. Only have a tree with a few decorations nothing else. Spread out visits to grand parents etc starting in December.

Usually end up going for a drive Xmas day to the beach or something.

We have the same. Santa in a sledge, on a trailer towed by a 4x4 usually. Loud christmas music blaring and christmas elves knocking on all the doors looking for charity money. Its ran by the round table.

Rolled fillet of Welsh Black beef, 45 day aged. Cook on Christmas morning, very rare and then slance at it all over Christmas. Luckily only I like it very rare so it is all mine!!

I always buy girls a teddy bear each for Christmas.
They are now 24 and 18.

Breakfast xmas day was always a ham roll or two (home baked ham and bread) when I was a kid. Only xmas day though. I still feel odd if I dont have a ham roll xmas day morning.

And we get the lions Santa on a sled as well, always pop out and drop a couple of quid in. Last week it was p**ssing it down though, so there were no walking collectors and they were past before I noticed.

Ours has just gone past.

We play a game of pass the parcel with some very silly forfeits. Made even funnier when the person who wrapped it forgets the order (it’s rigged).

When I was younger my parents imposed a no presents before breakfast rule, as soon as I had my own family that went right out the window.
