DFS Guaranteed Christmas Delivery

My wife's just off the phone with DFS.

We ordered some new furniture back in October, with guaranteed Christmas delivery. Was supposed to be delivered today.

Now we hear that it's not here yet, and they don't know when it will be.

So now she's in a rage, ranting about how they better sort this out, she'll be expecting some sort of compensation/partial refund etc. She'll calm down soon enough, but it raised the question, their 'guaranteed Christmas delivery', it's not worth the paper it's (not) printed on, is it?

There's no mention of it on the contract/invoice/whatever, that we have a copy of, so I guess if it's not here on time, it'll just be a case of take it or leave it, i.e. accept it whenever it comes, or tell them to stuff it and refund our money?

Things do go wrong. Most of it is the industry's own fault. They hype up the customer with the pre Christmas delivery thing. If one needs furniture does it really matter that much within a week or two?

It's all hitting the fan over here in Germany, all of these sofas etc that are supposed to be delivered before Christmas, well, we're on a Nationwide lock down from today, so that ain't going to happen

There's this nasty bug doing the rounds too.

Whilst that's true, the nasty bug had been doing the rounds for 6 months+ before we got around to ordering this.

The latest update is that it's at 'the port'. No idea which one though

Bear in mind that there's massive delays and issues for everyone getting containers unloaded and out of ports at the moment.

Partly due to Brexit, partly due to Covid.

If they don't have it, they can't deliver it.......

I also think in recent weeks the "Guaranteed Christmas Delivery" promises have disappeared.. Companies have had to readdress what they can offer as the virus situation constantly changes, though is understandable for those that ordered stuff expecting Christmas delivery will be disappointed..

Stop moaning and knock something up using some old pallets or whatever.
What's important is that you can spend Christmas together. A lot of people won't be able to do so this year.

Sadly this will not be DFS fault, they will have done everything to get your new suite to arrive on time but with the issues since Covid everything coming out of Asia is late, very late and upto 3-4 months late

It’ll give you something to chuckle about in years to come. In this upside down world I guess it’s just one of those things.

Had 3 sofas from DFS over the years, 2 of them we still have, zero issues at all and I reckon the current ones are 10 years old, a bit of sagging but that is to be expected.

Another vote for DFS, two suites, no problem whatsoever, although if you want to order be quick, Sale ends Sunday 5pm

What have you been sitting on since you ordered the furniture?

Yep. It'll be sitting in a container on a ship moored five miles outside Felixstowe.

Same here, it’s fine for 99% of people.

They shouldn’t have promised Xmas delivery though, I’d be looking for some form of compo, nobody suddenly sprung Covid on them.

Haven't been sitting in there. Been sitting in the sitting/TV area in the kitchen.

We've really never used the living room since we've been in this house, because we didn't have any furniture and the decor was questionable, until we re-did it.

wen we bought in similar circumstances several years ago i asked what the guarantee meant, what would happen if it wasn’t delivered before christmas to be told ‘oh, you can cancel the order’
