Best Bits of 2020?
Discussion
Well, it’s over.
Obviously for most it’s not been the best of years, but for me there have been one or two positives. These are small things, not huge personal achievements or life-changing moments, but things that will stick in my memory for years to come nonetheless.
First one was fairly recently when I first read the news of how amazingly successful the vaccines were. Hard to describe the feeling of relief this brought, but it was amazing.
Second one was back in May when things were generally not at all rosy, but watching the launch of the first crewed SpaceX mission to the ISS was very special and just what was needed.
What are yours?

For me it was changing jobs and doing a trip to Scotland where I managed to see the Northern lights and some whales. Also due to lockdown I managed to get some jobs done on the car I wouldn't normally do myself.
In the news I would say Trump losing the US election, the UK finally having a withdrawal agreement and the Covid treatment and vaccines were positive.

Going against the grain. My 2020 has been great - my daughter arrived in the first week of national lockdown and I have loved every extra minute with her. Not had to travel for work and got to spend a summer of lunch breaks (and more) with my new family. Difficult to see it being any better.

That's a great little story - best wishes for 2021 and it being equally good for you and yours...Clutching at straws, there are a couple of things.
Having cancelled two weeks in Thassos originally booked in for September, we had a week exploring the Lake District instead. Whilst obviously lacking the mid to late 20 Celsius temps / sand / warm seas / Ouzo / Gyros pita, it is an extraordinarily agreeable part of the world. The nearest "large" town, Ulverston, was a particular surprise.
Notwithstanding CoViD, my wife & I embarked on a sensible "low carb" diet at the beginning of the year. Between the pair of us, most - if not all - of our clothes are now unwearable, and I'm now a waist size not worn since I joined university back in 1992 (34" with a belt to be comfortable).

For me, the year was actually ok, fortunately I don't have too many complaints. The highlights were:
- Squeezing in a ski holiday barely a couple of weeks before all the lockdowns began.
- Finally restoring and riding my old cross country mountain bike - been meaning to do it since 2013!
- Running 10K in under 40 mins.
- Setting a new 5K personal running record - under 18 mins.
- Getting some key DIY tasks completed in my flat.
- Saving money.
- Lots of enjoyable outdoor exercise during the good summer we had.
- Buying a new Breitling watch.
- Finally buying a new lens for my camera to start taking some really nice portrait shots.
- Kept my job - wasn't furloughed or made redundant like some people in my industry were and many others in different industries.

Some positives from what was the toughest year I've had:
Got the Mk2 escort UK registered and on the road briefly during summer.
Did a heck of a lot of running, 1585 miles in total.
Walked up another 30 munros.
Had a decent crop of rhubarb and raspberries from the garden.
Still managed to co-drive on 5 rallies.

The end was the best bit for me.
It’s been a s
t year. Lost my job due too the hospitality industry being decimated &, wrongly, being blamed for spreading the virus in March/April.
I had a great career built up over 11 years working at some great events & some stunning venues.
It was not a 9 - 5 job & involved a lot of travel however it was worth it. Worked with some very very good people & then, overnight, it all went.
Jobs, income, fun, freebies. All gone. Probably never to return.
So that was s
t.
And too compound an already s
t year I lost my mum, unexpectedly, in September.
So, frankly, 2020 can f
k off & needs too be consigned too the bin!!!
