Finding out if someone served in the military esp WW2?

Just wondering really, my late father who died when I was very young I have minimal knowledge of but I have found his date of birth / death etc.

He would have been prime age for calling up, and what with me ex military wondered if he did serve.

Any pointers gratefully received folks!

I would imagine your best bet is in the National Archives, at Kew. It is possible the records aren't digitised but I would consult their guide linked below, then go from there.

I did start looking up my fathers WW2 details and occasionally get mail from Forces War Records..

Thanks all, trouble is, I don't know if he did serve, so no service number etc, just birth and death rates. I guess I need to find out if he actually had military records first...

Maybe he did not serve but was like a super spiv would actually be equally as cool. Best of luck with the search and lets us know what you find.
