Stressed - no Suit

Just realised I did not have a dark suit for a funeral on Friday & spent the last hours totally stressing & scouring the house/internet.
Last time I wore a suit was a number of years ago & I have had some significant clear outs since then.
Where I live no chance of any delivery in time.
I was totally freaking out, thinking which pals I could call tomorrow etc but then had a moment of clarity, it will be outside, forecast is 2C, I’ve a big black coat.
Got out of bed & got dressed, trousers, shirt, tie, jumper, coat on & saw myself in the mirror, I looked acceptable thankfully.
Going to take a bit of time this weekend & order a suit to hang in the wardrobe so I never have this problem again.
If you’ve a relative on the way out, check your wardrobe!

At the start of lockdown I damaged the suit jacket of my only decent suit. No matter. Only wear it for interviews. And the last 2 interviews, I didn't bother and still got the contract. Started wearing my own LTD company logo"d fleece and black 501s.
Anyway. Father in Law died in November.

It looked like a demob suit. Double breasted black with grey stripes. I don't think anyone really cares or noticed. Apart from my orange niece, who commented that I'd lost alot of weight. I didn't comment that she had probably put more on than I'd lost. And was more o range than ever.

Over the last ten years, for nearly every wedding I've been to I've had to buy a new suit.
When I started work I put on two stone over two years and bought two new suits along the way. I lost the weight when I moved back to England and then as I planned to work away I got rid of the suits as none fitted and I wanted a clear out.
I bought another suit at my new weight of 12 stone. Then needed another a year later at 13 stone, and another a year later at 14 stone.
I'm now back down to 12.5 stone and I'm keeping all three suits this time!

I don’t think I’ve ever owned a dark suit of any description.
I’ve never been in a job where I’ve needed one and for funerals it’s just black trousers, a white shirt and a dark jacket.
The main participant isn’t going to complain and hopefully any relatives have other things on their mind than how the mourners are dressed. It’s far more important to turn up at all than how you’re dressed. I’d rather see a crowd in jeans and T-shirts than nobody at all.
For weddings and other formal stuff I have my kilt

Nothing wrong with a generic supermarket suit from Asda / Tesco / etc. More than serviceable and super cheap.

My reasonably priced M&S suit seems a bit tighter each time I dig it out though

It's nice to wear a suit but not mandatory to show respect. At my mothers funeral last year lots of the mourners had bright flowers in their button holes as they knew she loved gardening and all things floral. Try having three sons to suit as well, every family gathering they needed a suit as they grew and then tried them on and looked like Norman Wisdom, rarely managed to pass them down so it always cost £300 or more for a selection of cheap suits and usually ties as they got lost.

king black ties. I despise the normal, largely Victorian based funeral traditions, dispose of my body using one of those services and then have a party with a free bar.
Its weird, you pay like 6 grand to dispatch someone then say "Will be alright once the funeral is out of the way", why do we put ourselves through that, big black hearse with a shiny coffin, standing in a church/crematorium for 20 minutes whilst someone says nice things about you that you never met and the next set of mourners are ready to come in
Six grand for something you dread, grand and a bit to deal with the corpse, rest on a nice party, maybe even a weekend in a hotel.

Cheers for advice believe me I considered making a dash for Supermarket Suit but nothing in the nearest Tesco or Asda’s at the moment.
Next day delivery isn’t always an option for me at best if times & esp not with Covid/weather. & so many co’s only had obscure sizes available.
Last night I could get a click & collect for after 12 on Friday from M&S but that was too late.
Umpteen light jackets, tweeds & formal Kilt wear just didn’t realise the dark suit was missing from the set.
Get what folk say re not worrying too much about my appearance but, I’m someone who is always well turned out, I’m carrying the coffin so very much noticeable & out of respect to my family absolutely have to be dressed.
