BT Openreach seem to get a lot of stick for doing things very slowly. In the interests of balance:
Today at 1200 I damaged my old man's phone line while pruning his wisteria.
At 1230 I got off the phone to BT who promised us an engineer would visit by Wednesday (Friday today).
At 1330 a BT Openreach engineer knocked on the door.
At 1400, he had repaired the line and departed.
Not too shabby IMO.

I spent a good few weeks trying to get BB sorted to my current home. BT just said no.Today at 1200 I damaged my old man's phone line while pruning his wisteria.

When I finally managed to get a contact at Openreach they were great, came out yes it can be done, in fact that's the first stage done for you now, once BT give us the order we'll do the second stage.
Chalk and cheese between the two companies yet actually under one banner although openreach guys may dispute that.
I had an internet outage a little while ago where my phone line had gone down
Reported to Sky and they said that Openreach would be up to 5 days
Guy turned up at 1.30pm that day and diagnose a broken wire near the junction box - said it had probably worn over time and our internet had probably been throttling back to compensate for the thinning wire until it eventually snapped. Ran a reset on the line to make sure got our speed back to what it should be
All sorted by 3pm

Same here. Neighbour breaks our line when cutting down a tree on monday afternoon. Phoned plusnet, they said someone should be here within 48 hrs. Chap arrived 2 hrs later and put a new line up. Also diagnosed a fault a little further down the network and they fixed that a couple a days later, leading to much improved internet speed.
Can't fault that service. We live in a high population area though. Might not be the same story out in the sticks.

I had a not so good experience last year getting fibre via BT. Yes, you can have it! Place order, go live day and nothing. Place order again, auto cancel. Hours spent on it - order, "yes it's fine now"! auto cancel. Must have happened 10 times. After 2 months download collapsed from epic 7Mbps to <2Mbps. Upload <1Mbps. BT provided 4G router FOC until after another 6 weeks and more false starts I'm now getting >45Mbps. Rubbish compared to FTP but I feel like we're getting close to 21st century.
Don't know if it was BT or Openreach (BT owned), I suspect the latter. BT bloody good in the end when I got someone assigned as my personal case handler - always available and had the clout and contacts to get it done so I felt OK after that and a bit of compo (happy face).

BT openreach?
I thought Openreach was the company that put the line, fibre etc in, And BT, Sky, Virgin etc was the company that provided the Internet service.
Openreach do indeed do the line, they install new fibre etc aswell and then do all the stuff for fibre within the exahnge I thought Openreach was the company that put the line, fibre etc in, And BT, Sky, Virgin etc was the company that provided the Internet service.
BT still look after copper lines and deal with all the stuff relating to copper within the exchange
They are still the same company regardless of what people say, I work with BT/openreach on projects and it’s all the same, then sky etc use the same lines but some have different servers
That's impressive. We've had no issues with them either. Not long after we moved into our current house, I was certain that the broadband speed was not up to scratch, and it was nothing to do with our side of the wiring.
They turned up very quickly and agreed. The fix involved totally rebuilding their manhole just up the road that was full of water. They also ran in a new overhead line from the pole the manhole served to the house to be sure they'd fixed it, as well as fitting new master socket. All for no cost.

An odd thing recently.
I used to get spam landline calls so I changed the number and no one else knows it. Spam is now rare. I had BB issues which BT diagnosed as a line problem so an engineer was due. As it was, replacing and fiddling with box to hub cable fixed it (for now) so I cancelled the app't.
During the 2 hour slot the engineer had been due I received 2 spam calls claiming to be my internet provider and 'press 1 to continue' etc. Sound like a data leak?
Btw I found BT quick to answer and helpful too.

The company is changing and evolving with a lot of new blood coming into the business. I've seen a huge difference over the years , some good and some bad And they recently announced they are recruiting a further 2500 new engineers , how many other large companies are taking on staff instead of letting them go?

Was just 3 weeks ago I had an Openreach guy fixing our copper line (turned out to be a faulty face plate connector).
I am a BT customer and was pleased to see the Openreach Engineer was there next day.
Sorry chaps, but OR are the biggest pile of s
t on the planet.
Ordered a new leased line for one of our offices and it took nine f
king months of them all blaming each other to get it installed.
Thirteen visits to sort of consistent intermittent broadband/line fault, and even now it still isn't that good.
With any luck, it shouldn't be too long before Deutsche Telekom take them over and sort it once and for all.

I knew the negative comments would soon start coming in! There's always going to be instances of failure and bad service in a company this size and trust me I've been there many many times on those jobs that appear so have a straight forward fix and it never goes that way. In days gone by when it was all one company British Telecom, you could cut through some red tape and get stuff sorted but when it split into Openreach, a lot of regulatory restrictions were placed on it so that all service providers had to treated the same including BT. In many cases that I dealt with, the customer ends up loosing out when the system was designed to be beneficial to them.

But when one of the problems they were causing was costing me over £25k, I expect it to be f
king well sorted pretty sharpish.I for one am glad they have had to open up their network of ducts to allow competition.
Hopefully at some point, that will focus their minds a lot more.
