Covid check in - How are you?..

•Has it affected you work/career wise?
I’ve been lucky really, we seem to be busier than ever despite being in aerospace.
•Mentally?
I have my down days, but plodding along. Although struggling to see a light at the end of the tunnel now. Finding avoiding media/Facebook is helping an awful lot! Impending property purchase is keeping me going.
•What do you miss the most?
Interaction with friends, car shows, international travel, evenings at the cinema, eating out etc...
•What has it changed the most in your life?
Everything Is pretty similar during the week to be honest. It’s the weekends that are completely different as there used always to be something to look forward to. Less family gatherings is a big change, as I used to see my brother at least once or twice a week and texting/zoom or whatever isn’t the same.

Has it affected your work? Not really, the dental trade has slowed a wee bit but not enough to affect the company, our repairs department is busier than ever right now.•Has it affected you work/career wise?

Mentally? Meh, i'm quite a solitary person by nature, so this has had no effect on me whatsoever, even after being furloughed for most of last year.
What do i miss the most? Days out or mini breaks with the caravan
What has it changed the most in your life? My lungs, having Covid with Pneumonia pretty much f
ked my lungs up good and proper so it is a slow recovery process, however the company i work for have been very good with looking after me.Great idea for thread
•Has it affected you work/career wise?
Lucky to still be full-time, albeit WFH.
•Mentally?
I’ve battled depression over the last few years so approached the whole thing with both gritted determination and admittedly some concerns. On the whole, I’ve been ok, but there have been times where the demons have a stronger day than normal. But my music, family and dog have helped. Social media has pretty much been a no-no. If there has been any activity it has been one-way.
I also don’t read-watch the news as much either.
Personal mind management is SO vital.
•What do you miss the most?
Very little tbh. Not that I’m a touchy person, but the option to do it would be good.
•What has it changed the most in your life?
Work activities. Seeing my mum & dad.
I’m a solitary person anyway so I can take or leave the whole social interaction aspect.
But the big one is staying strong.

Has it affected your work? Busier than ever, although monitoring/mentoring juniors is far more difficult. I miss the day-to-day chats/banter and the multiple zoom calls a day are really starting to drag! - I’ve started going back in a few days a week for a change of scenery, although the City is a ghost town. Overall it’s really kicked-on my profile professionally which is a good!
Mentally? It’s difficult, I’m definitely a lot shorter with people than I normally am, getting increasingly pissed off when news talks to extended measures etc.
What do i miss the most? Travel and golf mainly - we’re lucky that both the Mrs and I, our families and friends all (with very few exceptions) think the current measures are complete bulls
t. Just means we spend most weekend evenings at different people’s houses having drinks/beers and not restaurants/pubs. Was chatting to the Uber driver on the way back Friday evening and he was actually quite busy ferrying people in the same situation - at least that’s positive and a sign that this can’t be sustained for much longer at least.
What has it changed the most in your life? Not much beyond not going to golf 2 days a week, not travelling or seeing some friends that are abiding by the “rules”. The lack of “routine” has been a little more difficult too.

•Has it affected you work/career wise?
Busier that I have ever been - tbh WFH is a bit of a nightmare as I'm doing 60+ hr weeks now whereas if I was onsite it would be much more normalised
•Mentally?
Im quite mentally resilient (I had a mental collapse in my early career when I was a hotel manager) - while I do see an end to I do fear that the government will use outcomes (i.e. vaccinations) as freedom tools/levers to limit people (tinfoil hat - maybe)
•What do you miss the most?
Working on client site, meeting colleagues for beers and meals, eating out, but mostly - travel. We normally have 4-5long haul holidays every year and its been hard not - 1st world problems, yes, but they're my problems.
•What has it changed the most in your life?
Everyday is Groundhog Day. my daughter is doing great on home schooling and may be too ahead again come return so may need private intervention.
Travel as above
Cars, going down to one car in the coming months - my car has gone from 30k p/a to under 2k

Work wise I've gone from being a traffic warden to a covid warden. As there was pretty much nothing to do on car parks in lockdown 1, I was touted around the council and env health snapped me up, so I was visiting shops that were open advising on social distancing etc. Now we are in lockdown again I've been seconded over to the council as the team leader, we are either stewarding the rapid test sites or visiting shop advising about mask, click and collect, kick these customers out etc.
Mentally it's been hard, more so watching the effect its had on my kids, they both work for the same hospitality chain and have worked about 3 months of the past 12. Trying to keep their spirits up has been hard, coupled with the fact we can't see them that often. It's also damn hard work trying to get over to certain people why they need to be wearing a mask. I have never met so many argumentative aggressive asthmatics.
What do I miss? Spontaneity, the sod it let's go out for the day moments. The I can't be bothered cooking let's go for a meal moments. Just to be able to do things.
What's changed, everything really, work, family life, not had any arguments at home, we are doing well with that. But I have had a few slink away and cry my eyes out moments, I'm just so fed up of it now, it's a kind of limbo and it's hard.

Physically
I had a peculiar cough around May, could hardly breathe, that went away but a productive light cough has continued.
Sense of Taste
That went away around September for hot drinks only, tea and coffee tastes like hot water
Temperature
Haven't noticed anything in terms of change
Mentality
Totally depressed, haven't been out for months, could end it all without a second thought.

Work yes as I back on local bus at the moment until NX picks up again, at least I am still working though. •Has it affected you work/career wise?

What do I miss? Being able to get out and about, normally one of my coping mechanisms is getting out to places with the camera but not possible at the moment, also being able to see friends and family.
It is really days off that have changed in a way with not being able to get out much.

Worked from home on a contract for a high-end travel company from March (dull finance/credit control stuff), saw more and more people made redundant over the months, bookings plummeted overnight back in March, hotels worldwide were closed for the year and work was soul-destroying. We were down to working four days a week since April. Decided to knock it on the head and tomorrow will be my fourth week of being at home with my wife who retired early back in March. Fortunately I'm in a position to do this.
•Mentally?
OK really, yesterday was the first day of feeling down, although that was probably down to the weather after thinking Spring had come early last week.
•What do you miss the most?
Pubs, restaurants, holidays, gigs, freedom that was taken for granted this time last year.
•What has it changed the most in your life?
The work thing, it's early days yet, but the thought that I may more or less retire (or semi-retire) at 54 is quite an eye-opener in terms of what you need to work for and spend money on.

Well don't - take it from someone who considered an "out" while in probably an idilic situation (sunbathing on holiday!), you can take from this thread as a straw poll that SO many others are in similar positions. With the anonymity of t'internet, you can talk freely Totally depressed, haven't been out for months, could end it all without a second thought.

This is a shocking situation and all the mental aspect is starting to bubble over.
I applaud those who do the NHS talk thing. GP offered it to me with a long waiting list and I found the concept abhorrent. But I can easily type about it on a public forum, go figure.
I'll offer here to anybody who fancies a chat - drop me a pm

I do think it's easier to write it all down and post it on a forum than it can be to actually talk to someone, personally I think PH has been a godsend for a lot of us, a mixture of people in the same situation, help, advice, empathy and mickey taking. I've not got that low yet, but I've had bad days and have found all you lot on here have kept me sane.

I've been lucky by the looks of it, during first lockdown i sat on our balcony watching the world go by, did the washing, hoovering, washing up etc while the wife worked right through it all. Had the dog keep me company, Xbox, books etc but being a solitary type i am quite happy with my own company so didn't find it that bad.
Catching Covid was a bit of a bind but again, i didn't have the mental aspect of it that so many have had.
First week i was supposedly back at work and they asked me to work from home but didn't deliver a company laptop as they said they would, so again, books and the dog to keep me company.
I don't know why i find it easy to deal with solitude but i just do.

Double b
d busy only had 6 days off last year, and made more difficult by dated technology and a useless IT dept. I regularly fantasise about beating the IT director to death. Time to move on I reckon.
• Mentally?
Ok, one day/week merges into another, getting bored now.
•What do you miss the most?
Choices, the lack of is getting tedious.
•What has it changed the most in your life?
No travelling either for work or pleasure.

Work - I work in hospitality. I worked for 2 month in summer. I wont be back at work until may (probably)
Mentaly - Im naturally quite solitary when not behind a bar so can happily isolate. Thankfully my fiancee is still working so there is stuff to talk about. She gets to go awayto site quite often so she can tell me about the outside world. Thankfully I hzvd z garden so during the first lockdown it was nice to sit out mosg evenings.
Miss the most - I do need to travel more than 10 miles from my house soon though. Im so bored of my local area.
Changed the most- I hardly leave the house. I used to work 50 hours a week. I havent seen my niece in about a year. Shes about 2yo now.

Changed my life went from being care free living with parents spending money on racing too buying my first house at 28 and paying off my car. Downsides lost my job back in November mainly due to pressure building up and going through a rough patch I said a few things I shouldn't have.
Managed to get a new job lucky enough my trade mechanic/mot tester there is a huge shortage of techs so found a new job pretty quickly and closer too home bit less money but saving £100 a month on fuel however haven't really clicked in the place yet planning on going contracting next year. It just be a job to get me through 2021.
Then just 2 weeks after starting my nan died not hugely unexpected though.
My house completion finished mid December so tbf that has kept me busy on the weekends which I need atm hoping to move in next month.
Work is busy however but desperately missing social side of life even though im not hugely social but its now starting to hit me. Hopefully things will improve going into spring.

Work: I'm self-employed, work from home. Business is down 40 to 50% on last year. I still have enough income to get by, so it could be worse. It's the free time that's the problem - I don't like to sit around for too long.
Mentally: I live alone, so I do quite like some peace and quiet. There's too much of that now though. I've had just one face-to-face conversation that lasted more than 20 minutes since before Christmas. It's too cold to meet a friend outside for long. I hate talking on the phone for more than a few minutes. I don't know anyone who isn't already in a "bubble", so that's out.
It wasn't too bad when we were in tier 2, but full lockdown is getting me down. Some days, I just can't be bothered to do anything at all, have to really push myself to get up from the kitchen table after breakfast and actually do something.
Miss the most: Face-to-face interaction with friends and family. The ability to get in the car and just drive, or go to a shop without worrying. Planning a holiday.
What has changed: I'm turning into a hypochondriac. Every ache or twinge, I think it's something serious that I won't be able to see the doctor about
