Good morning all, I wonder if you can help. I sold a pair of trainers on eBay, I had a notification and email from eBay stating the item has been paid for but there are no funds showing in my PayPal account. Is it safe to post these and mark them as dispatched? I’m wondering if the funds haven’t released due to me not marking them as dispatched and a tracking number? I’ve googled but can’t seem to find anything to really help. The buyer wanted them dispatched today which I didn’t have a problem with but don’t want to send them if it’s a potential scam?
Don't trust anything other than what is showing in your Paypal account. Even if the funds couldn't be withdrawn the transaction will still show. Putting pressure on you to dispatch today suggests a scam - closely look at the emails you have received. You can always mark as dispatched and produce a shipping label - you don't (and shouldn't) post until funds have been received.
It's a classic PayPal scam
The fraudster sends you an email that appears to be from PayPal, but it isn't. it tells you that payment has been put into a holding account and will be released once you've posted the item and replied to the email with the tracking number.
You post the item and then go back to the website and add the tracking number, but the funds are never released, because they don't exist.
The address you post your trainers to is often an innocent persons address who is also a victim of a scam, they will have been offered a brand new iPhone 12 for a bargain price, which they accept and pay for. The item you have sold will be posted to their address, but when you send the tracking information the iPhone victim will receive a message saying that the wrong item has been sent to them, and when its received they should post it on to a forwarding address without opening it, which they do. They never actually receive the iPhone they have paid for.
By the time the fraudster has got his hands on your trainers, the audit trail is far too long and perhaps untraceable for the police to catch up with him. The final address your trainers get sent to is either an unoccupied address, or abroad, or the fraudsters address who says they returned it to the post office as it had been delivered to them by mistake. it can never be proved that they actually received them.
Have a look at the email you've received, look at the senders email address and click the little arrow pointing downwards, this will tell you the senders actual email address..

So the buyer just sent me a screenshot of an email he has to show the authorisation of payment via paypal, it also shows the Transaction ID and invoice ID? See below I’ve scribbled out the bits but you get an idea of what he sent.

Yes, I've just been caught out by that, someone collected something, but I have no option to mark it as collected without the code.Hopefully they won't be knobs and try anything, they seemed genuine, but if they do, I've got their address and they're only the other side of town.
Does sound a bit fishy but if he is now wanting to collect, insist on cash on collection only which sounds like he is now wanting to do if he is asking for the payment to be refunded.
Refund the paypal payment as and when it appears in your account, explain to him that its not showing in your account if he wants to wait for it to clear before collecting

Sounds dodgy the way it is playing out.
But are you sure you have not changed to managed payments, is so nothing will show for a few days.

Ok so spoke to PayPal they have no record of the transaction and asked me to speak to eBay. However I can’t find anything to raise to eBay about payment not going through to ebay.
