Being sucked into a group activity and a French exit

I am sure you have experienced this, too.
A quiet night at a pub. You and two or three friends, maybe after a hard day at work. Nice banter, nothing exhausting. But then one of your friends bumps into one of his friends, or - even worse - a group of strangers. Hi-fives, rounds of drinks ordered. "Hey, lets go to another place, its WILD there!" - "What??" And then slowly but steadily, peer pressure is building up. Nobody wants to be the party pooper. "Oh, come on, just one drink!". No excuses accepted (early start at work next day etc.)
What do you do? Bend in? Stand out and break the consensus?

Personally, right now, after a year of these stupid restrictions there is no way I would be looking for excuses

Yep. Back in the early 2000s a quiet Saturday lunchtime pint ended up with 6 of us in Amsterdam. The joys of living 10 minutes from an Airport. Personally, right now, after a year of these stupid restrictions there is no way I would be looking for excuses
t overpriced club and that's about it. When younger I would bend to peer pressure, and have had some epic nights as a result.
Now the thought of working while still drunk or with a banging headache just doesn't appeal and is not an option in my current job anyway. I would have mo qualms is saying "nice to meet you all I'm off to bed".
Added to the fact that when I was 18 and saw 40 somethings out on a night out I though it was a bit sad, I'm now nearly 40 something and still think the same and know that's what the kids looking at this old man are thinking.
