I'm in a couple of groups on whatsapp. General comedy videos and filth. Mrs has now got her arse in her hands saying it's disrespectful. I say it's just pub talk. Views please.

Please stop saying "You can't joke about anything anymore". You can. You can joke about whatever the fk you like. And some people won't like it and they will tell you they don't like it. And then it's up to you whether you give a fk or not. And so on. It's a good system

I'm in a few, they are pretty rough and ready.

If the missus has got the hump, thats fine, it doesn't mean you need to stop chatting with your muckers.

Being upset or offended by something doesn't mean it has to stop smile

The bold bit: Er, what?

The nature of comedy is to be disrespectful. If comedy was always respectful, even Michael McIntire would only have half a set, there would be no "8 out of 10 cats" or indeed much else. Filth on the other hand may well be the result of some kind of abuse (such as sharing pictures the subject didn't agree to) but without seeing said filth it's hard to comment. No, I don't want to.

Maybe you're showing a side to yourself that she didn't know existed. The comments you're making are waaay more offensive than you're prepared to admit on here, aren't they?

Glad I wasn’t the only one thinking that laugh

Micheal McIntyre has to be the most vanilla comedian out there surely? Can’t ever remember thinking any of his ‘jokes’ were risky or borderline.

EDIT: missed the word even when I read your reply.

I am in one particular one which involves fairly regular use of the “clear chat” function......

Are these comments/videos you've sent, or just bits you've been sent? If it's you, you might just have to grin and bear it for a while. Don't make it worse by saying, "oh, it's not as bad as what Barry sent", whilst showing some sordid video.

These group chats show a very different side to us guys that ladies don't seem to understand. I tried to reason with my missus that some stuff must get sent that's a bit out there, and nope, everything is apparently as would be at the dinner table.

Maybe if you ever wish to get her arse in your hands again you may need to respect her opinion laugh

I'm lucky, my partner just finds it funny that boys have groups full of gore, Franky Vaughan etc.

However if yours isn't, the clear chat function coupled with mute for a year (on whatsapp) is great. Ultimately, if she really doesn't like it then who cares, leave the groups

I'm in numerous WhatsApp groups for various things, and one is especially 'bad' (if you want to call it that) for videos of people being killed in horrific accidents, obscene 'adult entertainment' videos often involving wee and poo, and jokes that would shock Frankie Boyle.

Personally speaking, nothing like that offends me or upsets me. I'm not necessarily a big fan of it, but I just scroll past the worst of it and laugh at some of it.

My wife knows fine well that these groups sometimes have 'offensive humour' in them and just says "I don't want to know what you are laughing at! Don't show me! It'll be something disgusting".

The only time I left a WhatsApp group was when people started people started being racist or 'politically far right'. That was in a pheasant shooting and gamekeepers group.

It would appear that videos involving faeces don't bother me, but Tommy Robinson type content does. Make of that what you will biggrin

Edited to add:

I do have all groups muted, simply because I don't want my phone beeping constantly all day with group messages.

I also have WhatsApp message preview turned off, and I have 'autosave' turned off as well as I don't need every single photo and video being save to my phone.

As others have said, if they're really bad, mute them and make sure Whatsapp doesn't save images so you don't end up with a phone full of filth. hehe

I'm in a couple and do find them really funny though, even if some of it will send me to hell.

How on earth did she find out?

My wife has no idea what I get up to on my phone, just as I have no idea what she gets up to on hers - we're both adults.

Having said that, if she did see anything fruity or distasteful then she'd probably just roll her eyes and maybe tut a bit. Again, we're both adults.

The problem with these groups is when someone has them on their work phone or something equally stupid and everyone gets exposed & gets the sack.

Let's face it many of the comments, topics & discussions are ones that you wouldn't want your peers to know you're involved with - and when it reaches that point maybe it's time to leave?

She goes through my phone and anything she finds offensive offends her to the point that she thinks I choose the group chat over her.

...er....what?

This appears to be where your problem lies.
