Importing a deactivated rifle to UK

In 1990 I purchased a WWII Mosin Nagant rifle that had been deactivated in Birmingham in 1989. I have the deactivation certificate. When I moved abroad it was meant to stay in the UK but ended up being exported anyway when the packers threw it into one of the boxes.

It is old-style deactivated - you can still work the action.

If I move back to the UK with it, will I have a problem?

old style deacts are still legal to own here.

Not sure on the actual importing aspect.

Give someone like World Wide Arms a call or email. I purchased the exact same rifle from them a few years back. Very knowledgeable and I'm sure they would be happy to give some advice.
The date of deactivation might be the only stumbling block I can think of, but shipping it to an authorised firearms importer might be the best way round that.

When you say deactivated do they literally have their mechanism welded up so they cannot be reactivated?

If you can prove it its yours then theortically you can bring it in. There are questionmarks about the sale on non EU spec deacs in the UK since the EU harmonised the rules 2/3 years ago. I have stopped selling (along with most dealers) old spec deals and I think this is where you would fall foul if you decided to pass it on.
The other issue is how you physically get it into the UK and how it will be treated by shipper/carriers. You also have to convince the authorirites you own it and is it worth the potential hassle ?

Cheers. I still have the original receipt (taped to the stock along with the deact certificate) to prove ownership.
