eBay purchase sounds dodgy

Hi folks, I won a second hand car part on eBay last night for about £100. About an hour later I got a message from the seller asking me to pay to a different PayPal address as the one linked to the ad was playing up. Sure enough if I tried to pay that way an error message comes up and I can't proceed.
Presumably if I were to pay to this alternative address as 'goods' then the PayPal protection would still apply? I can't help feeling a bit suspicious and Google searches give mixed answers as ever..

If he’s asking for payment by PayPal I wouldn’t be too worried as generally they always side with the buyer and the protections are pretty bulletproof. Obviously when paying you need to select paying for goods, add eBay item number etc. Don’t pay it as “gift or family/friends”.
If the ad looks legit (and isn’t one of those where there’s a photo saying “contact me here” with a picture of an email address or phone number) I wouldn’t be TOO worried personally.
The only thing that could happen is it could take a while for papal to release/clear the funds if the alternative address is a new account. And the seller might delay/stall while your payment “goes through”

If you used your PayPal login to try and pay the other one suggested I would immediately log in to PayPal and change your password as it may have been a spoof site to get your details.
Could quite possibly be something like this.Either way, it all sounds dodgy and you're likely to end up with your fingers burnt.

eBay are moving across to managed payments where the money is paid into the sellers bank account rather than their PayPal. I changed my sellers account over last week and it took all of 5minutes to set up.
I couldn’t say if what you’re dealing with here is a scam but you’re right to be suspicious and I’d be wary. Either way it’s down to the seller to fix their PayPal or change their account to managed payments.

Wouldn't surprise me if sellers are trying to get paid outside of ebay because of this.
