Giant chocolate eggs - Cadbury adverts

Cadbury’s are currently running some adverts that purport to show gigantic Easter eggs, about the size of a house. My gf and I were discussing how long it would take to eat such an egg (if they were real and not CGI of course).

I said I thought they would be impossible to eat as a chocolate egg of such a size would have to be so thick in order to support the structure that there would be more chocolate than I could possibly eat - probably tons of the stuff. (Ignoring for the moment that it’s probably horrible chocolate).

So my questions are:

1. Could you actually make a chocolate egg of that size or would it be impossible as it would collapse under its own weight?

2. If you could make such an egg, how thick would the shell have to be?

The shape of an egg actually is a very strong structure so the walls probably wouldn’t need to be as thick as you might think.

Also the thinner the walls the less weight so the walls wouldn’t need to be as thick.

I’ve no idea of the actual measurements but I’d give it a good go at eating it.

I agree that the shape is quite strong I just think that chocolate is a pretty rubbish building material ... especially as I infer from the colour of the foil that they are milk chocolate eggs ... I suspect dark chocolate would be superior.

I was on a day trip to Cadbury’s world approx 3 yrs ago and at one point during the tour they were making huge Easter eggs, approx 4 ft tall,

£1500 each to buy, we saw one lady buy 4 for her children. Crazy, I certainly know I’d never be able to eat one.

I thought Heston Blumenthal had made a giant Easter egg but that looks to be just a boiled egg.

Google says the world record Easter Egg was in Argentina using 8000kg of chocolate and 8.5M high but that had a framework.
